A striking display catches the eye of passersby: a cabinet filled with a variety of iconic Hue delicacies such as rice cakes, dumplings, and steamed cakes, irresistibly enticing.
Highly Popular Hue-style Bakery with Saigon Influence in District 10
Still featuring the familiar Hue delicacies like rice cakes, shrimp dumplings, and clear tapioca cakes, the bakery along Nguyen Phuc Nguyen Street near Saigon station is favored by many for its fusion of flavors to suit Southern tastes. While the cakes may seem ordinary, just one bite reveals a deeper sweetness compared to regular Hue-style rice cakes, with fragrant dried shrimp made from minced fresh shrimp marinated in spices, along with pork fat and scallion – toppings commonly found in Saigon cuisine.

The rice cakes are large, thick, chewy, and moist, made from fresh shrimp and finely ground pork, loved by many. Just one plate is enough to satisfy both hunger and palate. You can opt for rice cakes with mashed mung bean filling and scallion oil instead of the savory filling. However, the nutty, rich mung bean filling may be more satiating.
Soft and smooth rice cakes, wrapped in clear tapioca dough filled with pre-seasoned shrimp, served with sweet fish sauce, pickles, and thinly sliced spicy peppers for a perfect blend of flavors, topped with dried shrimp and scallion oil for extra zest. The highlight of the dish is the chewy, thick handmade Hue-style sausage. The vendors refrain from using additives, preservatives, and prepare a limited quantity of sausage daily to ensure freshness, resulting in a delightful culinary experience.

The shop is quite tiny, with only a hidden cabinet tucked next to the electrical pole, so you have to pay close attention to spot it. The interior space is just enough to accommodate 2 low plastic tables and a few chairs for customers to use in the shop, while the majority opt for takeout for convenience. Prices here are fairly reasonable, with a plate of food ranging from about 20,000 to 35,000 dong depending on what you want to eat, so many students and workers are regular customers of the shop.
