The Economist magazine (UK) has just released the list of the top 50 safest cities for tourists to visit in 2015, with Ho Chi Minh City ranking 48th.
Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City secures a spot in the top 50 safest cities for 2015

Kicking off the article, The Huffington Post (US) on January 27th cites The Economist as a source, stating that tourists are particularly concerned about safety when choosing travel destinations.
This is one of the reasons why The Economist's travel correspondents choose to assess 'safety indicators' in 50 cities worldwide.
In the top 50, North America has 7, Europe has 13, Central and South America have 6, the Middle East and Africa have 6 representatives, while the Asia-Pacific region has a whopping 18 cities selected for evaluation.
According to The Economist, 40 quantitative and qualitative criteria are used to assess the 50 safest destinations, covering cybersecurity, healthcare security, infrastructure safety, and personal safety.
Based on the rankings of the 4 aforementioned themes, the top 5 cities honored as the safest to visit in 2015 are Tokyo (Japan), Singapore, Osaka (Japan), Stockholm (Sweden), and Amsterdam (Netherlands).

According to the published list, the United States has 5 cities ranked as the 'safest,' including New York (ranked 10th), San Francisco (ranked 12th), Chicago (ranked 16th), Los Angeles (ranked 17th), and Washington, DC (ranked 19th).
The Economist considers economic development and prosperity as conditions for a city to be deemed safe, and Ho Chi Minh City meets these criteria, ranking 48th.
The report also notes that tourism in Ho Chi Minh City 'needs improvement in the future in terms of safety rankings for the quality of infrastructure' (especially the quality of roads and the number of fatalities related to traffic accidents).
The capital Tehran (Iran) ranks 49th, and Jakarta (Indonesia) holds the 50th position.
