In the first six months, the number of international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) reached nearly 2 million, a 5% increase compared to the same period.
The choice of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) as a destination accounts for 50% of the total number of visitors to Vietnam. National statistics show that Vietnam has welcomed over 3.5 million international visitors so far this year.

Among the international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City, air travelers are estimated to reach 1.5 million, a 6% increase compared to the same period. This indicates that despite no longer holding the exclusive transit position as before, Ho Chi Minh City, with its unique tourism products, continues to attract international visitors.
As of June 2013, the total revenue of the city's tourism industry has reached over 41,000 billion VND, a 30% increase compared to the same period. Domestic tourism reached 7.9 million people, a 5% increase compared to the same period. According to Ho Chi Minh City's statistics, the city currently has 29,000 businesses related to the tourism sector. However, the management of this industry is centralized in only one department under the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City is proposing a review to establish a Tourism Department to decentralize management, promptly adjust the industry that contributes 11-15% of the city's GDP and 50% of the national tourism revenue.
