Hoi An: Spectacular Fireworks Display at Two Locations on Lunar New Year's Eve of Tet Giap Ngo

On January 14, Hoi An Cultural Center announced that to welcome the spring of the Lunar New Year 2014, there will be numerous entertaining and impressive activities organized on a large scale in Hoi An.

Especially, during the New Year's Eve moment, there will be lion and unicorn dance performances, bell ringing, drum beating, and fireworks at two locations: An Hoi Sculpture Garden and Cua Dai Port.

This year, the Tet festival is closely linked to the 6th Lantern Festival in Hoi An – 2014, taking place from the night of January 28 (28th of the 12th lunar month) to February 5 (the 6th day of Tet). The festival is organized through competitions in artistic lanterns, commercial lanterns, and artistic arrangement of lanterns, creating a space of light and color in the ancient town and An Hoi Sculpture Garden, along with spring couplets, and scenes of Hoi An creatures (flowers, fish, birds, etc.).

Especially this year, the “Childhood Day with Hoi An Lanterns” competition at 8:30 am on January 28 (28th Tet) at An Hoi Sculpture Garden will be a wonderful experience for traditional craftsmanship for children and teenagers.

In the lively atmosphere of every Tet season, Hoi An residents and tourists can once again enjoy the spring flower market on Tran Hung Dao Street, Nguyen Hue Street, and Hoang Dieu Street from January 25 to January 30 (from 25th of the 12th lunar month to the 30th Tet).

Festival of Tet cakes for the poor this year will take place on the morning of 28/01 (the 28th Tet) at Hoi An Museum, featuring competitions in rolling cakes, making jam, and giving Tet gifts to the less fortunate. The competition for wrapping and cooking Tet cakes will be organized in each commune/ward to create a warm atmosphere of spring, with families and neighbors gathering around the Tet cake pot.

During the “three Tet days, seven Spring days” at Song Hoai Square, there will be children's games, modern games, and lotto games from the 1st to the 6th day of Tet. Here, every night, there will also be various competitions for different age groups, such as “Young Voices – Young Singing Group – Beautiful Dance Couple – Hiphop Group – Spring Fashion” (on the evening of the 1st day), Physical Exercise and Fitness, Dance (on the 2nd day), “Children's Artistic Talent” competition (on the 3rd day), “Charming at the Age of 40” competition (on the 4th day), and two music nights “Party and Spring” (on the 4th day) and “Composer Tran Que Son with Quang Nam” (on the 5th day), with the participation of professional singers. The water puppet theater from the ancient capital of Hue will perform at An Hoi Sculpture Garden from the 3rd Tet day to the Full Moon day… At the beginning of the new year, fishermen enthusiastically participate in the excitement of the boat race on the Hoai River on the morning of the 5th day of Tet.

In the communes and wards, there will be lantern street decoration from January 22 to February 15 (from the 22nd of the 12th lunar month to the 16th of the 1st lunar month); decoration competition in residential areas, “Celebrating the New Spring” decoration competition for businesses on Lac Long Quan and Au Co streets; Reconstruction of the New Year's Tree from the 30th to the 7th day of the first lunar month (from January 30 to February 6) at relics, communal houses, temples, clan churches… and at the same time, organize entertainment spots in villages and neighborhoods.

Furthermore, at the Bồ Lúa food area (Vong Nhi village, Cam Thanh commune) will be the venue for “Recreating the traditional Tet space of Hoi An countryside” taking place from the 28th Tet to the 7th day of the first lunar month.
