The resurgence of Bardock in the Dragon Ball Super manga series has stirred immense excitement among fans.
As we know, Bardock is a Saiyan warrior, husband to Gine, and father to Raditz and Goku. Until now, Bardock's past remained largely undisclosed, with only glimpses of his valor in the Saiyan army revealed. Bardock and his fellow Saiyan warriors fell victim to Frieza's tyranny, a chapter erased from history. Nonetheless, Bardock valiantly rose to thwart Frieza's assault on his homeworld. Bardock made his prior appearance in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie and more recently in the manga Dragon Ball Super, much to fans' delight.
A specific flashback sheds light on Granola's past. As Frieza's army occupied a planet, Saiyan warriors were deployed as enforcers. Monaito, the last Namekian from the planet Cereal, confirmed Bardock's role in saving Granola and his mother's lives. Monaito revealed that Bardock had to confront Gas, Heeters' mightiest member, to protect them. Monaito informed Vegeta that Bardock emerged victorious in the battle against Gas. Vegeta, surprised by Monaito's revelation, disclosed Bardock's origin as a low-class Saiyan. So how did Bardock manage to defeat Gas, one of Heeters' strongest members?
To answer this question, we need to revisit many old tales of this Saiyan warrior. Bardock's secret to triumphing over Gas might lie in his previously demonstrated abilities. Bardock first appeared in the 1990 film Bardock: The Father of Goku. Known as a fierce and aggressive warrior, Bardock was also a loving father and a cunning strategist.
Notably, Bardock possessed a power that allowed him to surpass his adversaries. In The Father of Goku, an enemy cast a curse upon Bardock, granting him the ability to glimpse into the future. As depicted in Dragon Ball Z, Bardock foresaw Frieza's annihilation of the Saiyan race. He even glimpsed a far-off future where his descendants would ultimately defeat Frieza. Based on this knowledge, Bardock took action to save his son by sending Goku to Earth before the destruction of the planet Vegeta.
However, in the movie Broly, everything takes a slight turn. Here, Bardock couldn't glimpse into the future, couldn't witness Frieza's destruction of his planet. Bardock could only sense that something peculiar was about to happen, as Frieza called upon all Saiyans to assemble. As he predicted, Frieza reached out to them, sending a message and plotting to exterminate all Saiyans on planet Vegeta.
While it's unclear which version holds the truth, based on this, it's highly likely that this is the secret weapon Bardock used to defeat Gas. And in the subsequent chapters of Dragon Ball Super, power might be revealed through a flashback of Bardock and Gas's battle. With the ability to foresee the future, Bardock may not be mighty, but he can anticipate Gas's movements. By doing so, Bardock can strategize to defeat Gas. So, despite Gas being the strongest character in the Heeter gang, defeating Bardock remains a formidable task for him.
This might also be why Gas later claims to have prepared much more meticulously, if faced with Bardock once again. However, the storyline might introduce new powers or abilities from Bardock. To know for sure, let's eagerly await the next developments in the series.
