How to Activate VoLTE and VoWIFI on IOS and Android Phones

VoLTE/VoWIFI is being extensively deployed to address the shutdown of 2G and 3G signals by mobile networks in the coming years. In this article, Mytour guides you on how to activate VoLTE/VoWIFI on IOS and Android phones for improved call quality.

1. 2G, 3G Network Services on the Verge of Obsolescence

In Vietnam, the bandwidth system is overloaded, prompting mobile networks to shut down older network signals like 2G and 3G to make way for new-generation networks like 4G and 5G. All major networks are opting to turn off 2G and 3G as they are considered outdated and less effective. Specifically, Vinaphone has taken the lead in turning off 2G, while Viettel is phasing out 3G in certain areas to expand the deployment of entirely new, high-speed 4G and 5G networks. As per projections, by 2023, all networks will collectively shut down all 2G/3G signals.

When 2G and 3G network signals are turned off, traditional keypad phones (brick phones) will be unable to make calls. Additionally, smartphones face issues with choppy calls, unclear audio due to mobile signal drifts, poor quality, and lack of consistency. To address this problem, activate the VoLTE (calling over 4G) and VoWIFI (calling over Wifi) features to avoid disruptions when 2G/3G signals are turned off.

2. Advantages of VoLTE and VoWIFI

VoLTE/VoWIFI is the trend in mobile signal technology, offering excellent calling experiences. Key features of VoLTE/VoWIFI technology include:

• Improved call signal quality
• Crisper audio during calls
• No call delays (Without VoLTE/VoWIFI activation, there's a 2-4s delay before the phone starts ringing when making a call. With VoLTE/VoWIFI activated, the phone rings instantly).

3. How to Activate VoLTE and VoWIFI for Mobifone, Vinaphone, Vietnamobile, Viettel, Itel, Reddi, Local Networks

Mobile networks in Vietnam are actively deploying VoLTE/VoWIFI, and you can activate this service by registering with the network provider (service fee: 0 VND). This service is available for all existing and new SIM cards, and you can register without the need to change your SIM card.

Step 1: Open the messaging app and compose a message following the syntax below.

For Mobifone:

Note: For virtual networks Itel, Reddi, Local, you cannot activate VoLTE/VoWIFI features directly via SMS. To activate VoLTE/VoWIFI on virtual networks, please contact the hotline for assistance.

Step 2: Upon successful activation, you will receive a message from the mobile network confirming the service activation.

4. Activate VoLTE and VoWIFI on IOS/Android Phones

After successfully activating VoLTE/VoWIFI from the mobile network, you also need to enable this feature on your mobile phone to use it.

4.1 On IOS Phones

iOS devices currently support both leading call technologies: VoLTE and VoWIFI simultaneously. To activate high-quality calling features on your iPhone, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Settings, select the Mobile tab, and choose the SIM card to activate VoLTE/VoWIFI.

Step 2: In the network options, select Wifi Calling and enable the feature Wifi Calling on This iPhone to activate VoWIFI.

Step 3: Next, choose the Voice & Data section and activate the VoLTE feature to enable the premium calling functionality.

Step 4: For iPhone and iPad, upon successful activation, the 4G/LTE icon will appear next to the signal bars. This indicates that you are using the VoLTE/VoWIFI service from the network.

4.2 On Android Phones

On Android phones, VoLTE/VoWIFI features are also found in the settings and need to be activated for quick use.

+ Samsung Phones:

1. Open Settings => Connections => Enable Wifi Calling

2. Open Settings => Connections => Mobile Networks => Enable VoLTE.

Note: If there is an option for LTE/4G and 5G networks, activate them as well.

+ Xiaomi Phones:

Open Settings => SIM Card & Mobile Network => choose SIM card => enable VoLTE and make calls via WLAN/Wifi.

+ OPPO Phones:

Open Settings => Mobile Network= > choose registered SIM => enable VoLTE.

When successfully enabling VoLTE and VoWIFI services on Android phones, a VoWIFI/VoLTE icon will appear next to the network signal bars.
