Prior to 2003, installing an auxiliary system in your Honda Accord wasn't feasible unless done professionally due to the absence of an Aux button on the stereo system of those model years. Between 2003 and 2007, the cars retained identical compartments and interiors. Typically, car manufacturers alter interior designs every four years for a model. Therefore, instructions for installing an auxiliary system differ for models before 2003 and after 2007 due to varying interiors and compartments. These instructions specifically address installing an auxiliary system in a 2003-2007 Honda Accord. After assembling the necessary tools and items, you'll remove the compartments beneath the stereo to reveal the internal wiring for attaching the auxiliary.
Procedures

- Ensure the vehicle is turned off and securely parked with the emergency brake engaged.
- Gather all required tools and items as outlined in the Things You'll Need section at the end of the article.

- Use a flat-blade screwdriver to remove the small plastic cap adjacent to the gear lever.
- Subsequently, depress and hold the inside of the uncovered piece with the flat-blade screwdriver and pull the gear lever all the way back.

- The cover is firmly attached in 6 spots: 2 at the rear corners, 2 on the sides, and 2 at the front corners near the 'P' symbol for park.
- To remove it, insert a flat-blade screwdriver between the cover and the rectangular area, then lift to dislodge the cover. Start with the front corners near the 'P' symbol and one of the sides. Once at least 3 spots are dislodged, the cover can be pulled off with some force.

- Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the 2 screws near the front corners, and use long-nose pliers to prevent them from falling into the wiring area. If the screws do fall, refer to the Tips section at the end of the article.

- Use a flat-blade screwdriver to insert it into the seam under the tray, then push the tray out from underneath as demonstrated in the accompanying image.

- Locate the 2 screws at the back, which are encircled in the image above. Use a Phillips screwdriver and long-nose pliers to extract them.
- Then, grasp the compartment with your hand and pull to dislodge it.

- Detach the wire from the power outlet by pressing the button on its back and pulling.
- Now, the two-part compartment can be set aside to access the next, larger compartment.
- Proceed to remove the 2 screws at the bottom corners of the large compartment, as indicated in the image above. Utilize a Phillips screwdriver and long-nose pliers for this task.

- To take out the large compartment, press and hold the bottom of its door to reveal the seam between it and the stereo's bottom.
- Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the seam, pushing away while gripping the bottom of the compartment and popping it outwards. Pull the compartment from underneath once it's loose, ensuring the door is shut and the bottom comes out first. This grants access to the stereo's wiring.

- Fix the auxiliary box to the centered compartments by the passenger seat using Command adhesive products.
- Position the auxiliary box low and slightly towards the back for ample wire length to reach the wiring section below the stereo.

- Empty the glove compartment and press its flexible sides inward to release it from the corner hooks.
- With the glove compartment fully open and touching the mats, pass the wire behind it through the designated hole.

- Pull the wire through the hole until visible in the wiring section under the stereo.
- Attach the wire to one end of the Y cable extension, and the other end to the adjacent side of the Y cable's colorful wires.
- Connect the opposite end of the Y cable to the white component under the stereo visible from the wiring section above.
- Secure the Y cable's wires to the wall with scissors and electrical tape to prevent interference from compartments, as depicted in the image.

- Once connected, switch on the car radio and press the Aux button on the stereo.
- Verify if the CD-C display appears.

- Start by closing the glove compartment.
- Then, reposition and secure the largest compartment.
- Insert the largest compartment until it clicks into place.
- Ensure it fits snugly without movement and that the door operates smoothly.
- Tighten the 2 screws removed in step 7, located at the bottom corners of the large compartment.
- Next, reinstall and secure the 2-sectioned compartment.
- Reconnect the wire from step 7 to the power outlet in the 2-section compartment and push it down firmly.
- Fasten the 2 screws from step 6, situated at the back of the 2-sectioned compartment.
- Replace the rubber tray by pressing it down.
- Tighten the final 2 screws and reattach the plastic cover.
- Screw in the last 2 screws from step 4, located at the corners near the park 'P' symbol.
- Position the plastic cover around the gear lever and secure it.
- Finally, return the gear lever to park 'P' and replace the small cap next to park 'P'.
- No screwdriver is necessary since the gear lever is already not in park.
- Press the button on the gear lever and move it accordingly.
- Replace the small cap next to the park 'P' symbol and turn off the car.
- Complete! Now enjoy music from your handheld device in your 2003-2007 Honda Accord.
Pointers
-
Most steps require gentle but not excessive force.
-
Using pliers to extract screws is advisable as hands may struggle in tight spaces. Pliers can also retrieve screws if they fall into the wiring section.
-
Magnetic-tipped screwdrivers are preferred to prevent screws from falling and aiding in their retrieval due to their magnetic properties.
Cautions
- There are no electrical hazards involved in this step-by-step process.
Essentials
- An auxiliary system compatible with a 2003-2007 Honda Accord stereo system, such as the one described below. It should include the auxiliary box with wires on one end and a cord on the other, a Y extension cable, and a male-to-female auxiliary extension cord.
- A Phillips screwdriver, flat-blade screwdriver, long-nose pliers, scissors, and electrical tape.
- A set of Command adhesive strips.
