Need to make a window or document on your screen smaller or larger? Here's how you can easily adjust the size of any window on your desktop in just a few simple steps.
Steps

Open an application window.
Launch a computer program such as Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, or FireFox.

Check if your window is maximized. If it is, the window will occupy the entire screen. You can confirm this by checking the top-right corner. There are three buttons: one resembling a line (the 'Minimize' button), which minimizes the window; the button on the far right (on a Mac) or in the middle (on other computers) is the 'Restore Down/Maximize' button, used to resize the window; and the last button is the 'X' button, which closes the window.

Click on the 'Restore Down' button. Your window will now appear smaller.

Adjust the window size.
- If you're using a Mac, navigate to the bottom right corner of your window. There, you'll find a square icon with three diagonal lines underneath the scroll bar. Click and hold on this icon, then drag your mouse horizontally or vertically until the window reaches your desired size.
- For vertical resizing on other computers, move your cursor to the top of the window until it displays two opposite-facing arrows. Click and drag the window down to decrease its size, or up to enlarge it.
- For horizontal resizing on other computers, position your cursor at the window's right or left edge until it changes shape to indicate resizing. Click, hold, and drag the window inward to reduce its width, or outward to increase it.

To resize the window diagonally on other computers, navigate to the top right corner of the window, near the close button. Click, hold, and drag the window in the desired direction.

Maximize the window. Hover your mouse over the top of the window (left side on a Mac, right side on other computers). Locate the three buttons: Minimize, Restore Down/Maximize, and Close. Click on the Restore Down/Maximize button to expand the window to full screen.
