In this guide, we will instruct you on how to back up all the app data stored on your Sony Xperia smartphone to the SD card using the pre-installed Android app 'Backup and Restore'.
This app is currently available on Sony Xperia smartphones with Android 4.1 Jellybean and above.
Note: The 'Backup and Restore' app only backs up data stored on the phone. It does not back up SD card data.
Step 1: Navigate to the 'Back up & restore' section.
In the 'WHERE TO STORE DATA' section, select the location to store data; you can choose SD card (USB) or Flash drives.
Step 2: To store on USB, you'll need to connect a flash drive to your phone via an OTG cable if supported. Alternatively, choose SD card or USB storage. Now, select 'System apps data', 'Media files', and 'Downloaded apps with data'. If skipping some apps, expand the list and deselect the desired ones.
Step 3: Now click 'Back up now'. Enter a password you can remember. Choose your password carefully as you cannot recover data without it. Backup time will depend on the data size. You can find your backup in the 'SDcard>.semc-fullbackup' folder or 'USB storage>.semc-fullbackup'. Save this file on your computer.
Step 4 : To restore data, explore the ' Restore' tab. Choose the backup file and click 'Restore now'.
Thus, with just 4 simple steps, we've guided you on how to backup data on your Sony phone.
