How to Check Computer and Laptop Temperature: CPU, Hard Drive, RAM, VGA
Firstly, you need to download and install the HWMonitor software on your machine here: Download HWMonitor
HWMonitor is a useful utility for users to read and provide hardware-related indices. The program is capable of handling various common sensor chip types, reading hard drive temperature through S.M.A.R.T technology, and GPU video card.
1. How to Check CPU Temperature
Once you have completed the installation, opening the software will display various metrics of the computer as shown in the image below. To check the CPU temperature, navigate to the Temperatures section.
Checking Laptop Temperature
For the CPU, the optimal temperature should be around ~50 degrees Celsius, and the acceptable temperature is below 70 degrees Celsius. If the temperature exceeds 70 degrees Celsius, it is advisable to clean the computer and apply thermal paste to not only help the computer operate faster and more stably but also extend the lifespan of the device.
2. How to Check Hard Drive Temperature
To view the temperature of your hard drive, scroll down and locate the section as shown in the following image. Depending on the device, each computer is equipped with different hard drives. Here, my hard drive is from the Toshiba brand.
The acceptable temperature for a hard drive is below 50 degrees Celsius. If it exceeds 60 degrees Celsius, you should check the hard drive.
3. How to check your GPU, Graphics Card
GPU, also known as Graphics Card, is essential for gamers or graphic designers. In this illustration, Mytour is using a GTX 750 Ti VGA Card with a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius. Typically, the VGA temperature will reach 70 degrees Celsius when users utilize software heavily reliant on the Graphics Card. However, lower temperatures are preferable as they indicate higher usage efficiency.
4. How to check your RAM
Here, I'm using 4 RAM sticks with an average temperature of 70 - 80 degrees Celsius.
