Guide to Completely Uninstalling iTunes from Your Computer
To completely remove iTunes from your computer, follow these steps:
Step 1: In the search bar on your computer, type Control Panel -> then click on Control Panel to open it.
Step 2: Next, click on the Programs and Features option.
Step 3: Here, you will proceed to uninstall items related to iTunes as follows:
- Apple Software Update
- Bonjour
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Apple Application Support.
Click on each item -> then select Uninstall to remove the iTunes installations on your computer.
Step 4: Once you have uninstalled the 4 items as outlined -> proceed to access the directory below to delete the iTunes folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder: C:\Users\username\Music
Step 5: Similarly, on drive C, you access the following directory path:
Access the directory: C:\User\username\AppData\Local
Afterwards, proceed to delete the two folders: Apple and Apple Computer.
Step 6: Next, proceed to access the following path to remove Apple Computer.
Access the path: C:\User\username\AppData\Roaming
Step 7: Still on drive C, locate the following directory:
Navigate to the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files
Next, you will delete the folder Apple.
Step 8: This step is quite crucial to remove all folders and files related to iTunes software, and you will perform the actions in Registry Editor.
Press the Windows + R key combination to open Run. Then, enter the keyword regedit in the Open -> box and click OK.
Step 9: In the Registry Editor interface -> locate the folder according to the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
Here, you will delete Apple Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc. as shown in the description below:
Note: If your computer is running Windows 64-bit, scroll down -> navigate to the Wow6432Node folder to delete the 2 keys Apple Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc. similarly as above.
Step 10: Next, still in the Registry Editor interface, locate the folder with the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
Proceed to delete the next 2 keys Apple Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc. found in the directory there.
Step 11: You continue to access the folder using the following path:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software
Perform the deletion of the key Apple Inc. present here.
Still in HKEY_USER, you will access \S-1-5-21-4195518859-1453404549-3318302731-1001\Software to further delete the folders Apple Inc. and Apple Computer, Inc..
Continuing within HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-4195518859-1453404549-3318302731-1004\Software, you will delete the key Apple Inc. found here.
Step 12: Finally, restart your computer and upon checking, you will notice iTunes is no longer present, including its files in the Registry. This means iTunes has been completely removed from the computer.
After removing iTunes and completely uninstalling iTunes from your computer following the steps above, if you had previously reinstalled iTunes and encountered errors, now you can reinstall iTunes confidently without worrying about encountering the same errors as before.
