Alongside WinRAR, 7-Zip is a software for compressing and decompressing files, but few know it also supports file splitting like your trusty WinRAR. This feature comes in handy for uploading files online or sending them via Gmail or Yahoo on the Coc Coc browser.
Mytour has previously instructed you on how to split files using WinRAR, but this software comes with a fee. While it offers full functionality like WinRAR, 7-Zip is a free and user-friendly tool. This article by Mytour will guide you through cutting and merging files using 7-Zip.
Cutting and Joining Files with 7-Zip
Step 1: Download 7-Zip to your computer.
Step 2: Open the folder you want to compress and split files. Right-click and select 7-Zip -> Add to archive.
Step 3: In the Add to Archive dialog box, choose Split to volumes, bytes to cut the file. You can select 10M, 650M, or enter your desired size. Customize options like archive format, compression level, encryption, then click OK.
Step 4: Depending on the file size, 7 Zip may take some time to compress. Please wait a few minutes for the compression and file splitting process to complete.
Step 5: After successful compression and file splitting, you will find the files numbered from 001 onwards. The size of the last file will be the remaining portion of the original file, thus smaller than the preceding files.
The steps to merge the split files are quite straightforward. Simply select all split files, then right-click and choose 7 Zip ---> Extract Files ...
