Air purifiers have long been a familiar appliance to residents in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, especially households with young children, the elderly, or those with a history of respiratory illnesses.
Basically, an air purifier will help you eliminate fine dust, small fabric fibers floating in the room, neutralize food odors, harmful dust smoke, and even remove some mold, allergens, viruses, etc., from the air. However, verifying how effective an air purifier is, which one runs better, and to what extent, is something that few people fully understand.
Additionally, the prices of air purifiers often vary significantly, from affordable types priced at 2-3 million dong to high-end ones costing several million dong, making it difficult for users to assess the quality or choose a suitable product even after having seen it firsthand.
If you have ever faced such a situation, try applying one of the following methods.
1. Compare before and after turning on
Perceptions are often vague, but sometimes they are the most accurate measure, especially for various types of air purifiers.
If you want to know how efficient your air purifier is, try turning it off for a while and observe. The difference between when it's on and when it's off will demonstrate the effectiveness of the device.
This will be more noticeable if you are living in an environment with a lot of visible dust in the air, unpleasant odors, low humidity, dust smoke, etc.
2. Use a flashlight
Sometimes, thanks to the sunlight streaming through the window, we can observe dust particles floating in the air or tiny fabric threads after shaking clothes, blankets, or a wiping cloth.
You can also verify this by using a flashlight and shining it diagonally from below in a dark room. At this point, with patient observation, you can gauge the effectiveness of the air purifier.
3. Observing inside the purifier
After some usage time, try removing the casing of the purifier to inspect the filter layer inside. Normally, removing this part will be quite easy for convenient filter replacement.
At this point, the more efficient the filter is, the more dust it traps on the surface. At the very least, you'll know that it's the dust absorbent and not the lungs of the family members.
4. Check with specialized measuring devices
Specialized measuring devices are the most secure and reliable method you can use to assess an air purifier, especially for the fine PM2.5 dust group - something we can't verify with the naked eye.
For accurate measurement, you can place the device in a sealed room, then compare it with the rest of the room. Another method is recording the average dust level in the room, then bringing the measuring device to the air intake of the air purifier.
At this point, the dust particle index released at the purifier's air intake will demonstrate the device's efficiency.
