Users just need to install appropriate extensions to block accidental pressing of the BackSpace key on their computers. Alternatively, another method is to use the Google Chrome shortcut key that functions similarly to the BackSpace key without being prone to accidental presses.
Step 3: Select Settings from the Chrome menu > Extensions
Find the extension named BackStop > select Details and click on the Allow in incognito option right below the extension.
Note: in older versions of Chrome, there won't be a Details option but will appear directly as shown in the image.
In some older versions of Chrome, the interface will look like the one above.
Through Mytour's experimentation, BackStop can block nearly all websites and apps when opened in Chrome. Only a few settings in the Chrome menu may not function. However, you can rest assured as this extension is quite useful for regular web browsing.
How to Disable the BackSpace Button on Firefox
Fortunately, Firefox users have the option to block the BackSpace button directly in the browser's settings.
Step 1: Type “about:config” in the Firefox address bar. When the prompt appears, click “I'll be careful, I promise!” to bypass Firefox's warning.
Step 2: In Firefox's search (filter) section, type backspace to open the list of editing options.
Step 3: Once you've found the customization named browser.backspace_action, double-click on this customization.
Step 4: A command box requesting input for the customization value will appear. Simply type the number “2” and press Enter to deactivate the BackSpace button on Firefox.
If you enter the number 0, the BackSpace feature will be reactivated; whereas if you enter the number 1, the BackSpace button will function as the Page Up button (scroll up).
