To mute default sounds on a website, we recommend using supportive browser add-ons. Below are lightweight extensions widely used by the online community worldwide.
How to mute default sound on a website
1. Firefox (Download and Install Firefox)
Two browser add-ons below will assist you while web browsing:
Audio Controller: This is a Firefox add-on that allows you to mute sound in the currently open tab through an icon in the add-on bar.
You can click directly on the Add-on icon or use the shortcut Ctrl-Alt-M.
Flash Block: This is an excellent add-on that helps you disable all auto-playing videos and eliminate unwanted ads in Firefox. Flash Block is displayed on the add-on bar through a flash icon.
Click on this icon to play videos according to your preferences.
2. Google Chrome (Download and InstallChrome)
Mute Tab: A fantastic extension for Chrome users. It helps you quickly control audio on tabs. Additionally, it assists you in performing tasks such as:
- Identify the origin of sound by obtaining a list of possible audio sources or tracking the source of the sound.
- Control the audio of a tab, all tabs, or all tabs except the current one - from the toolbar icon or mute all default background sounds.
3. Opera (Download and Install Opera)
Similar to Firefox and Chrome, Opera doesn't provide any built-in options to mute audio while browsing. You need to install external extensions. One excellent extension is Flash Mute. After installing this extension, simply press CTRL + ALT + M to mute audio.
These are the browser extensions that help you mute default website sounds. If you prefer not to install browser extensions, you can mute the entire system audio while browsing to avoid disturbances. Additionally, we also mute Facebook sounds. If interested, you can check it out.
