Protected View mode is a feature that Office provides to users to minimize the risk of malware and virus infections when downloading files from the internet. Conversely, if the file you download is safe, Protected View will protect that file from virus infections originating from the device the user just downloaded the file from.
Disable Enable Editing when opening an Excel file
Turning off Enable Editing when opening an Excel file is equivalent to turning off Protected View mode, and naturally, the Excel file will not be protected each time you open a file downloaded from the internet. We advise against disabling this function; you should only disable it when you are certain about the safety of the file source or if the files have been scanned for viruses using dedicated software.
