A download folder serves as the designated location for storing files obtained via your computer's downloading processes. While many applications automatically generate a default download folder upon installation, accessing or remembering its location can sometimes pose challenges. Hence, creating a new download folder in a more accessible location may be preferable. The process of creating a download folder closely resembles that of creating any other folder, except that you simply rename it to 'Downloads' to signify its purpose of storing downloaded files.
Procedures
For Windows Users
Access the start menu by clicking the 'Start' button located at the bottom-left corner of your screen.
Click on 'Computer.' If you're using a different version of Windows such as Windows XP, click on My Computer instead.
Indicate the drive where you wish to establish the new folder. Many users opt for the 'C:' drive, as it typically serves as the primary drive and is commonly used for running the Windows operating system. However, you have the flexibility to select any drive, including external hard drives, based on your storage requirements.
Give a double-click on 'Drive C' within the 'Computer' window.
Position your mouse cursor over 'New Folder' and give it a click.
Observe the new folder appearing in the main window. The newly created folder will be highlighted.
Enter 'Downloads' into the field. This action will rename the folder from 'New Folder' to 'Downloads.'
Hit the Enter key on your keyboard to apply the changes. You're now ready to save your downloads in the newly created download folder.
For Mac OS X Users
Navigate to the desired location for the new download folder using Mac Finder.
Click on the gray cogwheel icon in the top taskbar and select 'New Folder' from the dropdown menu. A new folder named 'untitled folder' will appear.
Enter 'Downloads' to rename the folder, making it identifiable as your designated download location.
Click anywhere on your screen without selecting any folders to deselect the download folder. Now, it's ready for use in storing downloaded files.
Helpful Tips

Consider organizing your downloaded files by creating subfolders within your download folder. For instance, you can make subfolders like 'Movies' and 'Music' to keep your downloads sorted.

Remember to update the default download folder in your downloading software to ensure new downloads are saved in the newly created folder. Otherwise, they'll keep going to the old location.

Since download folders can grow large, especially with big files, choose a drive with ample storage capacity. This ensures you have enough space to store all your downloads.
