Whenever you delete a file, folder on the Windows operating system, those files and folders are not permanently deleted but will be moved to the Recycle Bin. Recycle Bin 'maintains' an option to restore deleted items in case you want to recover deleted data from the trash and an option to permanently delete items if you want to permanently delete those items.

However, in many cases, the Recycle Bin does not work, unable to open trash, including:
- No longer displays items you have deleted from File Explorer
- Unable to open Recycle Bin
- Although Recycle Bin is running, it hangs or automatically closes
- Unable to delete items permanently
- When you try to access the corrupted Recycle Bin (assuming Windows is installed on drive C:), an error message will appear on the screen:
The Recycle Bin on C:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?
Although you can click Yes on the message window and reset the Recycle Bin. However, in some cases, the message may not appear, and clicking Yes may not solve the problem. And you may have to deal with issues related to the Recycle Bin and system folder ($recycle.bin) above. In this case, using SFC may help you fix the problem.
Fix Recycle Bin not working, unable to open trash on Windows 10/8/7
Note: Performing the steps below will permanently delete files in the Recycle Bin.
Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
Step 2: Enter the command below into the Command Prompt window and press Enter:
rd /s c:\$recycle.bin
If there are other drives and the Recycle Bin contains data from these drives, in the command above, replace C: with the corresponding drive name.
Step 3: You will now receive a confirmation request Are you sure (Y/N)?, enter Y and press Enter to reset the corrupted Recycle Bin, fix Recycle Bin not working, unable to open trash.
After your computer finishes booting, the Recycle Bin will return to normal operation. If the Recycle Bin is still faulty, you may consider reinstalling a new operating system or upgrading the operating system to fix the error. These options do not affect your data
