If your Android device is outdated, you might encounter compatibility issues with the latest Netflix update. This guide will walk you through the process of acquiring an earlier version of the Netflix app for Android devices running versions between 4.4 (Kit-Kat) and 7.1.2 (Nougat). Similarly, if you're experiencing similar problems on an iPhone or iPad, you can re-download Netflix if it's already been 'purchased' on your Apple device. For those who haven't previously downloaded Netflix, ensure your iOS is updated to version 11 or later (compatible with all devices released after 2012). You can perform this update through Settings > General > Software Update.
Procedure
Remove the current Netflix app from your Android device. Long-press the app icon (located on either your Home screen or within the app drawer) and select
Uninstall or the trashcan icon.
Enable installations from external sources. If Security is visible, tap on it, and choose 'Unknown Sources: Allow installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store.' Alternatively, navigate to Apps > ⋮ > Special access > Install unknown apps.
- You can revert this setting after installing the older Netflix version.
Visit https://netflixhelp.s3.amazonaws.com/netflix-4.16-200217-release.apk using a web browser on your Android device. The website will open briefly to indicate that the download has commenced.
Tap on the downloaded file. You'll receive a notification upon completion of the download.
Tap on Install. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to install an older version.
- Once the download is complete, you'll locate the Netflix app on one of your device's Home screens or in the app drawer.
