To ensure your TiVo stays updated with the latest program information and software, it's crucial to have it connected to the internet. While the traditional method involves a phone line, opting for a wireless connection offers better bandwidth and eliminates the hassle of dealing with cords.
Follow these Steps:
Check Compatibility: Make sure your TiVo model supports wireless connectivity. Note that only Series 2 TiVo units are compatible. Also, be aware that DirecTivo units may require modifications due to USB port restrictions imposed by DirecTV.

Choose the Right Adapter: Visit the TiVo website for a list of compatible USB WiFi adapters. Opt for one that is known to be compatible to avoid any compatibility issues.

Connect the USB WiFi Adapter to Your TiVo

Access Network Settings: Use your TiVo remote to navigate to Messages & Setup, then Settings, and finally Phone & Network Setup. From there, choose Edit Phone or Network Settings, Wireless Settings, and proceed to the next step.

Choose Your Network: You'll be presented with a list of available networks. Select your home network from the list. If it's not there, check if your network is broadcasting its SSID, ensure your TiVo is within range, or troubleshoot your network connection.

Enter Network Security Key: If your home network has security enabled, you'll need to input the password or WEP key as instructed.

Opt for Internet Connection: Select 'Yes, Connect Via the Network' to instruct your TiVo to connect over the internet rather than using the phone line.

Say Goodbye to Your Phone Line Woes!
Useful Tips:
-
Expand Your TiVo Experience:
Now you can enjoy viewing photos or videos from computers connected to the same network, as well as listening to MP3 music files stored on your PC.
-
Software Update Reminder:
To update the software required for the USB WiFi unit, you still need an analog line.
-
Check Your Software Version:
Make sure you have software version 4.0 or higher to connect to WiFi. You can find your software version by navigating to Messages & Setup, then highlighting System Information. If your version is below 4.0, you'll need to upgrade first. Note that DirecTivos may not support version 4.0, especially those predating Series 2 Tivos.
