Installing *.ipa files directly from your computer to iOS devices is no longer as challenging as it used to be with various tools available to assist. However, choosing the most effective, simple, and quick tool for this task is of utmost importance. We'll address this issue in the following article.
Firstly, let's understand what *.ipa files are.
An *.ipa file is an extension for installation files designed for iOS devices such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.
To install these files, you'll need to prepare the necessary tools:
Required Tools:
- Jailbroken iPhone, iPad, iPod
- Cable to connect the device to the computer
- iFunbox (installed on the computer)
- Appsync (installed on the device)
Note: This trick applies to jailbroken iOS devices.
Proceed to install games and applications for the device.
1. Ensure your device is jailbroken and Appsync is correctly installed for your device's firmware.
If you haven't already or don't know how to install, you can refer to the article Install AppSync for Jailbroken iPhone, iPad here.
2. Use iFunbox to install games and applications on the device.
Step 1: Install iFunbox (If you already have it, you can skip this step)
If you don't have it yet, you can download iFunbox here and proceed with the installation on your computer as usual.
Note: - To get your device recognized by iFunbox, you need to install iTunes first on your computer. If you haven't got iTunes yet, you can download iTunes here (Choose the iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit version according to your computer).
- Unlock the screen (if you have set a password) so that the device can connect to iFunbox
Step 2: Open the iFunbox program. Wait for it to connect to your device with iFunbox. Choose Managing App Data after the connection.
Step 3: In the Managing App Data option, select Install App to locate the App you've downloaded and saved on your computer
Step 4: In the appearing window, navigate to the folder containing the setup and save it. Here, I'll use the example of the game 'Warrior'
Step 5: Wait for iFunbox to automatically install it for you. The process may be fast or slow depending on the file size you want to install and the device's speed
When the installation screen displays All Done, you can open the device and start playing games and using apps as usual.
In case of failure, the screen will report an error '0 succeeded, 1 failed', then you need to check:
- Have you followed the steps above correctly?
- Is there enough free space on your device, at least enough space compared to the app's size you're installing?
To check available space: Go to Settings / General / About / Available and look at the displayed number.
- If you've ensured the above requirements, you need to check if the app you want to install is supported on your device. For example, if your device is running iOS 5.1.1 and the app is only compatible with iOS 7.1.1, you won't be able to install it, or you'll need to find a lower version of the app to be compatible.
To check the operating system version, go to Settings / General / About / Version. Here it's iOS 5.1.1
