Guide to Installing the Windows 8.1 Update
For computers running the Windows 8 operating system
The Windows 8.1 update is available for free download. Simply download the file and install it. However, before installation, make sure to back up your data to another drive to prevent data loss during the update.
System requirements: A minimum of 3000MB HDD for Windows 8.1 32-bit, and 3850MB for the 64-bit version. Follow these steps afterward:
- Connect your computer to the internet, use the Windows update feature to update all packages.
- Disable antivirus programs.
- Download the Windows 8.1 update (Choose either the 32-bit or 64-bit version based on your needs).
- Double-click the .msu file. Select Yes to start the update process (this step may take a while, depending on your machine's configuration).
After completing the update, the program will prompt for a restart. Choose Restart Now to restart and finish the update process.
For computers using Windows 7
Users looking to transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 need to download packages for Windows 8 and updates for Windows 8.1. Updating from Windows 7 is not free. You can purchase a DVD or buy a license on the Microsoft website, then use the Upgrade Assistant tool for installation. Installing via disc is relatively straightforward, so let's proceed to install Windows 8.1 using the Upgrade Assistant.
System requirements: A minimum of 16GB HDD for Windows 8.1 32-bit, and 20GB for the 64-bit version.
To proceed with the installation, follow these steps:
- Connect your computer to the internet.
- Disable antivirus programs.
- Download the Upgrade Assistant Here.
Double-click on the file OSGS14-WindowsUpgradeAssistant-32bitand64bit-ClientSKU-4141411.exe to run the program. Select Next to continue.
In this step, choose Just Personal file (1), select Next (2) to continue.
In this step, select Install Now (1), choose Next (2) to proceed.
At this stage, input the computer name in PC name (1), then select Next (2) to continue.
At this point, choose Use express settings to continue.
In this step, enter the Microsoft account details, with User (1) and Password (2), then select Next (3) to proceed.
At this step, select Next to proceed.
