On July 29th, Windows 10 was officially distributed to users. For Windows users, this is undoubtedly a great joy, while for MAC users, it's an opportunity to experience the latest features on the rival operating system. Check out how to install Windows 10 on Macbook and iMac below for more details.
Preparation:
- Macbook, iMAC, or MAC machine powerful enough to run Windows 10
- Empty 5GB USB
- Another computer running Windows
- Internet connection
I. Basic setup
Step 1: Firstly, you need to download Windows 10 to your Windows-running computer beforehand. Make sure to choose the 64-bit version, as for running Win 10, it's best that your computer has more than 4GB RAM.
Step 2: After downloading, proceed to run the Windows 10 Setup. However, instead of installing it on the current Windows, choose Create installation media for another PC and click Next to install it on another machine.
Step 3: Here, you select Language - Edition, and 32/64 bit - Architecture.
Step 4: In the next window, choose IOS File and then click Next to continue.
Step 5: The final step in this section is to select the location to save the ISO file. The size of this file ranges from 4-7GB, so you should choose a suitable storage location.
II. Partitioning the Drive for MAC
Step 1: Firstly, you copy the ISO file you created earlier and paste it onto your MAC desktop. Make sure to connect the USB to your MAC for installation later.
Step 2: Next, run Boot Camp Assistant and click the Continue button to proceed. The Boot Camp tool is located in the Applications\Utilities folder, or you can use Spotlight to search for it.
Step 3: In the next step, check all 3 boxes as shown in the image below.
Step 4: Here, Boot Camp will automatically detect Windows 10 because you previously pasted it onto the desktop.
Step 5: Windows requires at least 20GB of internal memory to be installed. Adjust accordingly to fit your device's capacity.
After this step, you're ready to install Windows 10. Now, restart your Macbook or iMac to boot from the USB for installation. If you're unsure how, refer to our guide on installing Windows 10.
