Every user wants their browser to integrate with IDM for easy video, image, or file downloads due to IDM's stability and excellent support. So, adding IDM to Microsoft Edge is a must for its users.
In reality, when you install IDM on your computer, browsers usually support automatic link capture by default. Requirements:
- Latest version of IDM, download IDM here
- Requires Windows 10 Fall Creators Update; if you don't have it yet, upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update here.
How to Add IDM to Microsoft Edge
Step 1: Open your Microsoft Edge browser, then type about:flags.
Step 2: In about:flags, search for Enable extension developer features and activate it. This feature allows activating extensions in developer mode, and of course, you'll need to restart your computer if you want to continue adding IDM to Microsoft Edge.
Step 3: In Microsoft Edge, click on the settings icon > choose Extensions.
Step 4: In Extensions, select Load extensions.
After that, copy the following path here C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager\IDMEdgeExt and paste it into the address bar, then click on Select Folder .
Note: If you're using Windows 10 32-bit, replace Program Files (x86) with Program Files only.
Now you'll see the IDM icon in the Extensions section, and that's it, you've successfully added IDM to Microsoft Edge.
Step 5: Now open IDM and go to Download >Options to check if the automatic link capture feature is enabled or not.
If not, then check Microsoft Edge and also Automatically start downloading of URL.
Step 6: Then go to YouTube using Microsoft Edge and open any video, you'll see the IDM download icon.
With plenty of different download options.
And of course, downloading files, videos on Microsoft Edge is just like on other browsers.
Note: Since this mode is currently secure, each time you open Microsoft Edge, you need to click on Turn on anyway to use IDM.
