Omurice is a Japanese term meaning fried egg and rice. It's a dish where rice is wrapped in a fried egg and covered in sauce. This dish usually features chicken stir-fried with rice and tomato sauce. Depending on your taste preferences, you can substitute chicken with beef, pork, shrimp, and add various vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, broccoli, and cauliflower.
OMURICE - A POPULAR JAPANESE DELICACY
Omurice is highly popular in Japan. When made correctly, the egg inside has a creamy texture, and when cut in the middle, it naturally spreads over the rice, making it extremely appealing. Even if you're not confident, a fully cooked, glossy egg topping the rice is still beautiful.
In this article, I want to share a simple recipe for Omurice that anyone can easily make.

INGREDIENTS FOR OMURICE
• 400 grams diced chicken breast
• 4 cups cooked rice
• 4 white mushrooms, sliced
• 8 eggs
• 1 green bell pepper, deseeded and diced
• 1 tablespoon (20ml) vegetable oil
• 1/2 onion, finely chopped
• 1/4 cup tomato sauce
• Freshly ground black pepper
• Salt, seasoning

HOW TO MAKE OMURICE
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients
- Clean the chicken, dice it, marinate with some seasoning and black pepper for about 15 minutes.

- Finely chop onions.

- Clean and slice mushrooms.
- Clean and dice green bell peppers.

- Crack eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of MSG, seasoning, beat until well combined.

Step 2: Fry the rice
- Heat oil in a pan, add chicken and stir-fry until golden brown.

- Add onions, mushrooms to the pan and stir-fry until softened.

- Add diced white mushrooms and sliced onions to the pan, sprinkle with some salt and pepper, season to taste.

- Turn off the stove and mix in the tomato sauce. Set aside to marinate with the spices.

Step 3: Fry the egg
- Heat oil in a clean pan, pour in the eggs and spread them evenly to form a circle.

- When the egg surface begins to set, add ¼ of the fried rice onto the center of the egg, shaping it into a diamond-like pattern.
- Fold the sides of the egg over the rice, enveloping the rice with the egg.

- Invert a plate over the pan, then flip the pan to transfer the Omurice onto the plate.

- Repeat the above process to make 4 servings for 4 people.
- Drizzle some tomato sauce on top before serving.
