Saddles are an uncraftable item in Minecraft. Once you possess a saddle, you can ride horses, pigs, llamas, and striders. So, how do we go about finding this item?
Finding Saddles in Minecraft
There are 4 ways for you to find saddles: looting treasure chests, trading with villagers, fishing, and defeating Ravagers.
Treasure Chest
When exploring landmarks in Minecraft such as villages, dungeons, fortresses, desert temples, jungle temples, etc., you will come across at least one treasure chest. Opening this chest gives you a chance to find saddles.
The highest likelihood of encountering saddles is in places like Nether Fortresses (35.3%), Dungeons (28.3%), Desert Temples (23.5%).
To reach the Nether Fortress, you first need to enter this dimension through the Nether Portal crafted from Obsidian.
Exploring caves in the overworld, you might stumble upon a Dungeon if luck is on your side. Dungeons are small rooms constructed from cobblestone, featuring a central monster spawner cage. Place a torch on the cage to prevent further spawns.
Lastly, there's the Desert Temple, which you'll find by traversing the desert. Desert Temples house four chests filled with valuable loot. However, beware of the pressure plate trap beneath the floor that triggers TNT explosions if activated.
Fishing
You can fish in any body of water with a fishing rod. Besides fish, you have a chance to reel in rare items, including saddles.
However, your initial luck is quite limited. Therefore, it's advisable to enchant your fishing rod with 'Luck of the Sea' to increase your luck. Additionally, add the 'Lure' enchantment to speed up fishing and 'Mending' to prevent rod damage.
Trade with Village Leatherworker
If you've amassed a significant amount of emeralds, start searching for a village with a Leatherworker. If you can't find one, you can turn an unemployed villager into a Leatherworker by placing a Leatherworking Table along their path.
Trade extensively with the Leatherworker until they reach the Master level. At this point, you can exchange emeralds for saddles.
Defeat a Ravager
If you're up for some action-packed thrill, you can battle a Ravager to obtain a saddle. First, you need to trigger a raid on a village. Then, powerful mobs will start attacking, and the Ravager will appear as well.
Upon death, a Ravager always drops a saddle.
How to Use Saddles in Minecraft
Once you have a saddle, you're ready to ride an animal, but how will you do it?
Horses, donkeys, and llamas
All three of these animals need to be tamed before you can ride them. You must right-click on them several times until you see hearts appear and they no longer buck you off. Then, press E, drag the saddle, and drop it into the first empty slot.
If you have horse armor (found in treasure chests), you can place it in the second slot.
You can hold a chest in your hand and right-click to place it on a Llama, providing you with an additional 15 inventory slots each time you mount it.
The Llama is a hybrid between a Horse and a Donkey, capable of fast travel like a horse and carrying chests as well.
Pig
You can easily attract a pig with a carrot. You don't need to mount it first; just hold the saddle in your hand and place it on the pig, then mount it.
However, you can't control it. The requirement is a Carrot on a Stick. Holding it while riding the pig allows you to control it.
Strider
While riding a pig may seem fun, it's not as useful as riding a Strider (which can walk on lava). In the Nether, where you encounter plenty of lava, riding a Strider helps you move around easily.
Similar to pigs, you first need to attract the attention of a Strider with its favorite food: Warped Fungus (a green mushroom found in Nether forests).
Once the Strider approaches, place the saddle and start mounting it. Hold the Carrot on a Stick with Warped Fungus attached and begin controlling it.
Unfortunately, once you've placed the saddle on a pig or Strider, you can't retrieve it. The only way is to kill them.
