How to Prevent Windows 10 from Deleting Files Automatically
Step 1: To prevent Windows 10 from automatically deleting files, disable its automatic mode by accessing Windows Settings using the shortcut Windows + I. Here, select the System section where you manage general issues on your computer.
Step 2: Scroll down until you find Storage, which displays the entire HDD capacity.
Step 3: If you see that Storage sense is enabled, turn it off as this is what we need to find to prevent Windows 10 from automatically deleting files.
Step 4: If you prefer not to disable it completely, go to Change how we free up space to configure the feature appropriately.
Step 5: Within Change how we free up space, there are 3 options for you, but remember if you've already turned off Storage Sense, this selection won't take effect.
- Delete temporary files that my apps aren't using: Delete unnecessary files generated by unused applications and software.
- Delete files that have been in the recycle bin for over 30 days: Delete files in the recycle bin that have been there for more than 30 days.
- Delete files in the Downloads folder that haven't changed in 30 days: Delete files in the Downloads folder that haven't been used or modified in the last 30 days.
Setting up Storage Sense is quite straightforward, but its benefits are significant. However, if you prefer not to use it, you can prevent Windows 10 from automatically deleting files or at least configure it to block Windows 10 from automatically deleting files in the Downloads folder, where browsers typically save downloads.
However, Mytour suggests that drive C is the place that needs to maintain a certain amount of free space. If you use a browser, set it to download files elsewhere and delete files in the Download folder. Keep this folder clean at all times.
