Deleted Instagram messages are inaccessible on standard devices. To view these previously deleted messages, you must download a data file from Instagram and manually sift through it on a computer. This method is complex but ensures recovery of all deleted messages from Instagram.
Part 1: Backing Up on Your Phone
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone, navigate to Account (1) > Options (2) > Settings (3).

Step 2: Navigate to Settings, select Security > Download Data for data backup.

Step 3: The backup data will be emailed to you, so ensure you input the correct email address and hit Request Download.
You must enter your password to confirm the data download request.
The data backup will be emailed within 48 hours, depending on your Instagram usage. It may take as little as 2 hours for smaller datasets, or up to 1-2 days for larger ones.

Part 2: Accessing Deleted Instagram Messages from Backup
With the backup in hand, a computer is necessary to view your previously deleted Instagram messages.
Step 1: Access your email to locate the Instagram backup message.
Then, select Download Data to begin viewing.

Step 2: You'll be redirected to Instagram to sequentially choose Download Data for backup to your computer.

Step 3: Open the downloaded backup files on your computer to locate the Messages folder, often found in Part 1.

Step 4: Select the Inbox to view conversations, opening them by the Instagram user's name.

Step 5: Each message folder contains a Message_x.json file (x represents each part of the conversation).
Right-click on Message_x.json and select Open With => Google Chrome/ Edge/ Cốc Cốc/ Firefox…

Step 6: Use Ctrl + F to open the search tool and type the message content you're looking for.
Manual message search can be time-consuming but allows you to access even deleted Instagram messages. Currently, it's the only method to revisit past messages and conversations.

Simple steps enable you to quickly and thoroughly review all Instagram conversation content. Wishing you a pleasant day!
