Procedure
Accessing the Online Database
Utilize the online database if your birthdate is on or after January 1, 1960. Your number will only be accessible in the Selective Service's online database if you were born on or after January 1, 1960. For individuals born before this date, dial 1-847-688-6888 and follow the automated prompts or speak with a customer service representative to acquire your number.
Visit the Selective Service System's website. Open your web browser and locate the main website of the Selective Service System at https://www.sss.gov/.
Hover over the blue “Registration” tab. Locate the “Registration” tab positioned on the left side of the webpage. Hover your cursor over it to reveal a dropdown menu.
Click on “Check a Registration” in the dropdown menu. Within the dropdown menu that appears when hovering over “Registration,” select “Check a Registration,” which is the second option listed.
Click on “Verify Now.” You will be directed to a new page where you'll find a large green check mark on the right side. Next to it is a blue button labeled “Verify Now.” Simply click on this blue button.
Provide the necessary information. Upon clicking “Verify Now,” you will be prompted to input information about the registered individual. This includes your last name, social security number, and date of birth. Once completed, solve the captcha and click “Submit.”
Record your number. Once your number is generated by the database, ensure to note it down in a secure location. If you require a new registration card, reach out to the Selective Service at 1-847-688-6888.
Contacting the Registration Information Hotline
Dial the hotline if your birthdate is prior to January 1, 1960. For individuals born on or after January 1, 1960, the most convenient method to retrieve your number is through the Selective Service's online database. However, if your birthdate precedes January 1, 1960, utilize the hotline instead.
Dial 1-847-688-6888 to reach the hotline. When calling from a cell phone, omit the “1.” Simply dial the number and wait for the automated system to answer.
Follow the instructions provided by the automated system. Select your preferred language by pressing the corresponding number (“1” for English and “2” for Spanish). Then, choose the option related to registration information by pressing “1.”
Continue following the prompts until you receive your number. You will be prompted to input your last name, social security number, and date of birth. If you encounter any difficulties, select the option to speak with a live customer service representative for assistance.
