First, highlight the column segment you want to split.
Next, access the Data ribbon on the toolbar. Then, click on Text to Columns under the Data Tools section of this ribbon.
The Convert Text to Columns Wizard dialog box will appear.
You can choose between two column split options:
- Splitting columns based on data contained within the column: Delimited (choose according to our example in this tutorial).
- Splitting columns based on the width of the column: Fixed width.
Click Next to proceed.

Next, select one of the three options for Excel to use in column data partitioning:
- Tab: Columns are separated based on the tab character.
- Semicolon: Columns are separated based on the semicolon character.
- Comma: Columns are separated based on the comma character.
- Space: Columns are separated based on spaces or whitespace.

The result you receive is the data column split into two columns as initially intended.
