A quick weave can provide an exciting change in appearance, though its intended duration is typically around four weeks. Removing a quick weave involves coating the base of the hair wefts and the cap with ample oil for easy removal. In case of dried glue residue on the scalp or natural hair, utilize a glue remover shampoo. Following this, comb through the hair prior to regular shampooing and conditioning.
Steps
Removing the Hair Wefts and Cap

Choose an oil to apply to your quick weave. Hair oils or shampoos formulated for loosening and removing quick weaves can be purchased from beauty supply stores. Alternatively, household oil-based products like conditioner, almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil, or baby oil can be utilized. Dish soap is also an option.

Apply oil to each hair weft. For oil in a bottle, spraying it onto the base of each hair weft is an option. If using a non-spray product like conditioner or oil, pour it into a bowl and apply it with your fingers directly to the hair weft where it meets your scalp or cap. Consider protecting your clothing with a plastic cape or grocery bag as oil stains can be challenging to remove. Additionally, wearing an old T-shirt can help manage the messiness of the oil.

Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for one hour. Use a shower cap or nylon cap to prevent oily hair wefts from contacting your face. Leave the cap on for one hour to allow the oil to loosen the hair weft glue.

Remove the shower cap and massage the soaked wefts attached to your hair. After soaking, remove the shower or nylon cap and use your fingers to massage the wefts directly glued onto your hair. Massaging helps loosen the wefts, initiating their downward movement. If a weft feels dry or resistant, apply more oil product and wait an additional 30 minutes before attempting to work it again.

Pull off the wefts attached to your hair. Gently pull down and away the hair weft from your hair, ensuring its complete removal. Continue this process for individual hair wefts not attached to the cap. If encountering difficulty, saturate them with more oil product and allow it to sit for an additional 30 minutes before retrying.

Spray the cap edges with oil and massage them. Following the removal of individual hair wefts from the top of your hair, apply more oil to the cap edges. Massage and rub the cap edges to facilitate sliding. Rushing the cap removal without loosening it first can damage natural hair, leading to severe consequences such as bald patches or alopecia. Therefore, take your time and allow the cap to loosen properly.

Continue to spray oil on the cap and lift it away. Massage towards the center of the cap while applying oil with your hands. As more oil is applied, the cap will gradually loosen from your scalp, allowing for complete removal along with the attached hair wefts. You can opt to save the cap with the wefts for reuse or discard it. Note that some caps, particularly stocking caps, may sustain damage during removal. In such cases, remove the wefts and discard the damaged cap. After shampooing and conditioning the wefts, they can be reused with a new cap.
Removing the Glue Residue

Apply oil directly to the glue spots to dissolve the glue. Massage the oil into your hair and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes. Then, gently comb through your hair to remove the dissolved glue. Once you've removed as much glue as possible, proceed to wash your hair. The same oil used for removing the wefts and cap can be used for this purpose.

Rub glue-removing shampoo onto the glue. Purchase a product specifically designed to dissolve glue from natural hair, available online or at local beauty supply stores. Apply the shampoo to your scalp and massage it in to dissolve the remaining glue. The amount of shampoo needed will depend on the extent of glue residue. If glue removing shampoo is unavailable, a clarifying shampoo can be used instead to remove buildup and residual oil.

Comb your hair with a wide-tooth plastic comb and rinse out the shampoo. While the glue removing shampoo is in your hair, use a wide-tooth plastic comb to gently detangle and remove any large pieces of dried glue. Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water to remove the shampoo. Using a wide-tooth comb is crucial to prevent hair pulling and tearing.

Shampoo your hair with your regular shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Wet your hair and massage your usual shampoo into it. After a few minutes of massaging, rinse out the shampoo with warm water. This step helps eliminate any remaining oil residue from the hair weft removal process.

Condition your hair to maintain its health and moisture. As the glue remover and shampoo may have dried your hair, apply your preferred conditioner throughout. Comb the conditioner to help remove any remaining glue. Leave the conditioner in for several minutes before rinsing. If your hair still feels dry, consider using a deep conditioner left on for up to an hour or applying coconut or argan oil for added moisture.
Tips
- Never forcibly remove a hair weft as it could damage your natural hair.
- Allow your hair and scalp to rest for a few weeks after removing the quick weave before attempting a new one. This helps maintain the health of your natural hair and reduces the risk of breakage.
