The American Kennel Club (AKC) maintains extensive records of dogs registered with the organization. These records include details such as a dog’s performance in competitions and its lineage. By utilizing your dog’s AKC registration number, you can access a plethora of information about your beloved pet. Simply register for a free AKC account online and use the provided tools to search for your dog’s information, including full reports on its pedigree and participation in dog shows.
Procedures
Conducting a Complimentary Search
Sign up with www.akc.org. In order to conduct research on a dog via the AKC website, you must first create a free account with them. Click on the Sign Up link located on the homepage’s upper right corner, and provide your email address, first and last name, and a password for your account. You may be required to verify your email through a link sent by the AKC website.
- The AKC website serves as the sole accurate and up-to-date source for retrieving AKC registration numbers.
- While it is possible to search as a guest, registering for an account is recommended.
Hover over the AKC Shop on the menu bar. After registering, go to the ‘shop’ tab in the top menu bar. Hover over the link to reveal a drop-down menu.
Choose the Competitor Reports option. Selecting Competitor Reports will lead you to a list of reports and searches to locate your dog. Click on this option and find it under the Search Tools section.
- When accessed from the main page, this will be located under AKC Services & Reports.
Click on Free Dog Lookup. Clicking this link will open a pop-up where you can search for a dog by its AKC number. Enter the number and click search to run your query. Choose your dog from the results to view its details.
- This search provides basic information about your dog such as birth date, sex, breed, group, breeders, owners, and some awards. For more detailed information, additional reports may need to be purchased.
- You can also search by the dog's breed and registered name.
Locating a Dog’s Pedigree
Sign up for an AKC account. Before accessing any AKC reports, you must first register for an account on the AKC website. Registration is free but requires providing some personal information like your name and email address.
Go to the AKC Shop in the menu bar. Once you've registered with the AKC site, go to the ‘Shop’ tab on the top menu bar. Hover over the link to reveal a drop-down menu.
Choose the AKC Certified Pedigrees option. Under the ‘Shop’ drop-down menu, select ‘AKC Certified Pedigrees’. This will take you to a page where you can search for your dog’s pedigree using their AKC number.
- This report displays your pet's family tree, including championships, health certifications, and countries of origin for up to 4 generations.
Add the report to your cart. To initiate the search, add the report to your cart. A certified pedigree report from the AKC costs $34.
- You can opt for a framed version of the report for an additional fee.
Enter your dog’s registration number in the search. Once the report is in your cart, a pop-up will appear allowing you to search for your dog by its AKC number. Run the search, select your dog, and order the appropriate report.
Complete your purchase. Click the ‘check out’ option on the report page. Enter your credit card details and finalize your purchase. Your certified pedigree will be printed and sent to you by mail within a few weeks.
Keeping Track of Your Dog’s Awards
Sign up for your AKC online account. To access your dog's award records, you must first register for an AKC online account. Use your name and email address to create an account, then log in to access the report.
Visit the AKC Shop in the menu bar. Similar to checking your dog’s pedigree, you'll need to have an AKC account before checking your dog’s awards. After registering, go to the ‘shop’ tab in the top-of-page menu bar. Hover over the link to reveal a drop-down menu.
Click on the Competitor Reports option. This option is located under AKC Reports. Competitor Reports will lead you to a list of reports. Choose this link, then locate the Custom Reports & Products for Your Dog section on the table.
Opt for the Individual Dog Award Record and Points Progression. This link will direct you to the report page where you can search for your dog. The report is available online and costs $8.
Click the button to add the report to your cart. This action will prompt a pop-up where you can search for your dog using their AKC number. Enter your dog’s number to generate their individual report.
Complete the purchase of the report. After verifying your dog’s registration number, proceed to purchase the report. Choose the ‘check out’ option on the report page and enter your payment details. The report will be electronically delivered to you.
- This report will display any awards and points progressions earned from AKC partner dog shows or agility events.
