Every time you open Instagram, you'll see stories from your friends and people you follow. But sometimes, it can get annoying when someone posts too many stories. To deal with this, you can unfollow someone's story on Instagram.
1. How to Unfollow Stories on Instagram
When you unfollow someone's story, they won't know that you've hidden their content. So, you don't have to unfriend or block them.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your phone. Swipe left/right on the story section to find the account you want to mute.
Step 2: Press and hold on the person's story icon until a menu pops up, then select Mute.
Step 3: Choose Mute Stories or Mute Stories and Posts.
After hiding, that person's story will be moved to the far right and dimmed.
If you only select Mute Stories, you'll still see their regular posts on your feed. If you want to mute both, choose Mute Stories and Posts in Step 3.
2. Re-follow someone's story on Instagram
2.1 Method 1
This is the quickest way for you to re-follow someone's story on Instagram.
Step 1: On the Instagram home page, scroll to the end of the Story section to find the accounts you've muted.
Step 2: Press and hold on that account's story until a menu pops up, then select Turn on Post Notifications.
Once done, your friends' content will immediately return to your Instagram story section.
2.2 Method 2 – go to the user's profile
Step 1: Open the profile of the person you've muted using the search (magnifying glass) feature or messages.
Step 2: Click on the Following section.
Step 3: Select Mute from the menu that appears. Then, toggle the switch in the Posts and Stories section to gray to continue following your friends' content as usual.
That's all you need to do to follow someone back on Instagram.
3. Report content
If you come across a story that you intend to mute containing sensitive or violating content according to Instagram's terms, report it.
Step 1: Open the Story or post that you find inappropriate, tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
Step 2: Select Report when the menu appears.
Step 3: Choose the reason you want to report that story or post. Instagram will immediately record the report and hide the post from your feed.
