HTC and Sony Announce List of Smartphones Upgrading to Android 9.0 Pie

Following the recent release of Android 9.0 Pie by Google earlier this month, the update is promptly deployed for Google's Pixel and Essential Phone. The tech giant reveals its collaboration with several Android OEMs to extend the update to other mobile devices. As of today, HTC and Sony disclose the roster of smartphones set to receive the Android 9.0 Pie update.

Recent leaks reveal that HTC devices, including HTC U12+, U11+, U11 , and U11 Life, will be updated to the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system. The specific timeline will be disclosed later.

Furthermore, reports from GizChina confirm that Sony will update six of its smartphones to Android Pie by the end of this year. The devices include Sony Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium, XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XZ Premium. The deployment of Android 9.0 Pie on these devices is expected between September and November this year.

In a tweet posted on its Twitter account last Saturday, HTC implicitly confirms the rollout of the latest Android version on its devices. Among the supported HTC devices, HTC U11 Life will receive the update through the Android One program.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo confirms the deployment of Android 9.0 Pie for Vivo X21 and other flagship smartphones in Q4 of this year, specifically between mid-October and November.

In addition, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi recently announces the MIUI 10 Beta update for Mi MIX 2S based on Android 9.0, soon to be available for testing.

Other OEM manufacturers including OnePlus, HMD Global, and Oppo have enrolled in the Android beta testing program and will soon roll out Android 9.0 Pie on their smartphones.
