Posts on Reddit over the past 24 hours mainly come from users of Huawei mobile devices residing and working in EU countries and regions. Interestingly, these are not interactive ads but rather part of the lock screen wallpaper collection that users can find by default through the Magazine view mode on their Huawei phones.
According to a Reddit user, to remedy this situation, simply remove the offending wallpapers from the Magazine library. To do this, swipe down on the lock screen, then swipe left until you find images from Booking and delete these images.
Alternatively, another method is to completely disable the Magazine view mode and use a single image as the wallpaper.
Huawei is not the first smartphone manufacturer to push ads through its operating system to generate additional revenue. Xiaomi is well-known for making money this way, and even Amazon has done something similar. The difference is that Huawei quietly deploys these changes without notifying users. What's worse is that the ads appear even on the company's flagship mobile devices, including the recently released P30 Pro.
Currently, Huawei is facing significant challenges in Western markets after the U.S. officially added the company and its 68 subsidiaries in over 20 countries to the 'Entity List'.
To survive this period, the Chinese tech giant will need support and goodwill from its Western customers and users. Sneakily adding advertisements on the lock screen will surely make Huawei lose points in the eyes of users. Therefore, nowadays, the question of Whether to buy a Huawei phone is the most frequently asked.
