Huawei is actively developing its own operating system named HongMeng OS/Ark OS. Additionally, the company is constructing its own app store called AppGallery as a replacement for Google Play Store.
According to recent reports on XDA-Developers, the company has initiated emailing developers to persuade them to bring their Android apps to the AppGallery store.
The email content promises comprehensive support for developers if they choose to align with Huawei. It also emphasizes the current AppGallery, boasting 270 million active users and over 350 million mobile devices sold by Huawei in the past 2 years, with half of them being in Western markets.
It remains unclear whether Huawei's reasons are convincing enough to persuade app developers. Even if the company manages to convince third-party developers to bring their apps to the AppGallery store, the absence of popular Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube, or Google Maps will still pose some challenges.
Most users in countries other than China heavily rely on these apps. Therefore, the absence of popular Google-developed apps will make Huawei phones less appealing to users compared to alternative products from Samsung or Xiaomi.
Given this difficulty, the question of whether to buy a Huawei phone is being raised by many users.
