On its website, the Civil Aviation Authority issued directives to the Central Airports Authority, Vietnam Airports Corporation, to carry out repairs ensuring security, safety, and schedule of runway maintenance.
Thua Thien Hue Province has just received a document from the Ministry of Transport regarding the temporary closure of Phu Bai Airport. The closure period for this airport is from 00:01 on March 20th to 23:59 on November 20th.
Previously, from May 13th to June 13th, Phu Bai Airport was closed for repair and upgrading of the runway.
The Provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has widely announced to tourism operators inside and outside the province about the plan to close Phu Bai International Airport for about 6-8 months, starting from March 2013, to serve runway repairs.
The total cost of repairing the runway at Phu Bai Airport is about 500-600 billion VND, invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation. After repair, it can be operated for about 15 years.
Currently, Phu Bai Port requires repairs for its 2,700m-long runway. According to the plan, by 2020, Phu Bai International Airport will achieve a 4E rating, capable of accommodating 20 aircraft and 5 million passengers annually during peak hours.
