1. Buttered Popcorn
Buttered popcorn is a favorite snack for many, especially among the youth. However, you must be extremely careful with this type of food. The toxic substance in buttered popcorn lies in the non-stick coating on the inside of the popcorn bag. When heated, it decomposes into perfluorooctanoic acid, increasing the risk of cancer.
Additionally, the adhesive tape around the bag can release highly toxic substances when the popcorn bag is heated. Moreover, buttered popcorn contains a chemical called diacetyl, which can cause lung diseases. The preservative Propyl gallate in microwave popcorn is responsible for various symptoms such as skin rash or complications of gastric diseases. Furthermore, this snack also contains soybean oil – a genetically modified food with various additives.

2. Refined Sugar
While you may not have cancer, your body harbors some latent cancer cells. Surprisingly, sugar is a part of the diet for these cells. Consuming excessive sugar inadvertently nurtures cancer. Moreover, refined sugar not only increases insulin levels but also has the potential to cause cancer.
It can be said that the rising cancer rates are linked to the excessive consumption of processed foods like pastries, cakes, sodas, sweetened fruit juices, sweet sauces, and mainly those using refined sugar. According to some statistical studies, the use of artificial sugar (usually single or double sugar - prevalent in carbonated drinks, sodas - often HFCS) and 100% fruit juices is associated with cancer. A study in France involving over 100,000 people showed that excessive consumption of these beverages increased the overall cancer risk by 1.18 times and breast cancer risk by 1.22 times. However, there is no direct confirmation that these sugar groups are the direct cause of cancer. Therefore, the current recommendation is to limit their use rather than completely ban them.

3. Unhealthy Unsaturated Cooking Oils
Essentially, unhealthy unsaturated cooking oils are various vegetable oils, all of which contain high concentrations of omega-6 fatty acids. Consuming excessive omega-6 fatty acids can lead to health issues. Many people believe that self-pressed oils are completely handmade and very safe. However, in reality, some cheaply produced self-pressed oils floating in the market often pose numerous food safety issues.
Moreover, when vegetable oils are heated to high temperatures, they can release a significant amount of harmful compounds called aldehydes, which are linked to cancer, heart disease, and memory loss. Both aflatoxin and benzo(a)pyrene are potent carcinogens if the dosage exceeds the specified limit.

4. French Fries
French fries, originating from Belgium, gradually gained popularity in European and American countries and are now present globally. The consumption of french fries is increasing worldwide. In addition to transformed fats, processed foods like french fries contain carbohydrates, salt, color enhancers, preservatives, and flavorings.
Frying potatoes at high temperatures leads to the formation of cancer-causing substances like acrylamide, which is a significant factor in cancer cases in the United States. French fries, including curly fries, sliced potatoes, and potato chips, are high in fats and salt, increasing the risk of heart disease. Consuming them in large quantities can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity—common risk factors for various health issues. Heavy consumers of french fries often indulge in other high-fat or high-salt foods such as sodas, fast food, and red meat.

5. Processed Meat
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a branch of WHO, processed meats, such as sausages and cured meats, have been listed as leading causes of cancer. Specifically, processed meat in the report refers to meats that are seasoned (with salt, preservatives, and other spices) and then subjected to smoking, drying, or industrial processing. Examples include smoked meat, sausages, salted meat, jerky, canned meat, cured meat, or meat-containing sauces.
Most processed meats contain various chemicals and preservatives like sodium nitrate, giving the products a fresher and tastier appearance. This is also the type of toxic substance found in cigarettes, contributing to lung cancer. Moreover, the high levels of salt and chemicals used in meat processing can significantly impact your health.

6. Cà chua đóng hộp
While nutrients in tomatoes, such as lycopene, may reduce the risk of cancer, these benefits are lost when tomatoes are canned. The plastic lining of tomato cans contains endocrine-disrupting chemicals, leading to health issues and being a primary cause of cancer.
BPA is a common preservative in canned foods and can cause various dangerous diseases like breast cancer, prostate cancer, behavioral changes, and Down syndrome. For tomato cans, due to their high acidity, BPA easily infiltrates the fruit, making it extremely hazardous.

Among meat preparation methods like grilling, frying, and smoking, they are considered unhealthy. Moreover, numerous studies indicate that consuming excessive grilled meat also puts you at risk of stomach cancer.
A French research group conducted an experiment measuring toxic gas emissions after an outdoor barbecue. The results revealed that the amount of dioxin produced during a 2-hour grilling session is equivalent to burning over two hundred thousand cigarettes. This toxic substance is no stranger; it is one of the main factors causing cancer. Thus, the level of toxins that grilled meat can introduce to our digestive and respiratory systems is enormous.

8. Refined Cereals
White rice and white flour are the two most commonly used refined cereals today. For wheat and rice, the most nutritious part containing amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, and the most fiber is in the outer bran and germ. However, refined cereals have this nutritious outer layer removed to enhance taste and prolong shelf life.
When consuming foods processed from white rice and white flour, our bodies lack B-group vitamins (essential for digestion and the conversion of carbohydrates). Thus, we must mobilize B vitamins from other parts of the body, leading to a range of disorders such as digestive issues, nervous stimulation, muscle fatigue, anemia, reduced vision, increased blood sugar, irregular heartbeat, and other issues leading to cancer.

9. Farmed Salmon
In the technique of salmon farming, net cages are commonly employed to confine fish beneath the sea. When salmon succumbs to certain illnesses, farmers resort to antibiotic use for treatment. This leads to farmed salmon often containing an unhealthy amount of antibiotics, especially detrimental for children. Furthermore, several studies indicate that farmed salmon carries higher concentrations of PCBs, dioxins, and pollutants, posing a significantly increased risk of cancer compared to naturally caught salmon.
Additionally, the high density of salmon in farms results in increased sea lice infestations, with farmed salmon having 30 times more sea lice than their naturally caught counterparts. Moreover, research also reveals that farmed salmon contains elevated levels of PCBs, mercury, and dioxins, escalating the cancer risk.

10. Pickles
Turkey and Japan are countries where pickled and fermented products are regularly consumed. In these regions, doctors have discovered a significantly higher rate of stomach cancer among the population. The reason lies in the excessive salt in pickled foods, which elevates the risk of stomach cancer.
Cabbage, cucumbers, and other pickled and sour dishes are always delicious appetizers. During hot weather, when the body is tired and appetite wanes, people tend to opt for pickles. However, pickles contain a substantial amount of nitrosamine, proven by researchers to potentially induce liver cancer. It is advisable to avoid or minimize consumption.

11. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) is the term used for genetically modified foods that have been heavily treated with various chemicals during their cultivation. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are currently a booming industry with hefty profits. GMOs, also known as foods that have been genetically altered through chemicals or the use of genetically modified substances.
When introduced into the body, these foreign genes lead to the alteration of the DNA of bacteria inside the digestive system, thereby posing a high risk of cancer.

12. Shrimp Paste Tofu
Despite being a favorite dish for many, this dish harbors hidden risks of causing diseases in humans. Few know that this beloved office snack can potentially lead to cancer. To achieve the crispy and tender texture of fried tofu, it needs to be fried at a temperature of 245 degrees Celsius. When food is fried at a temperature above 170 degrees, the compounds within it transform into acrylamide, a known carcinogen.
Vermicelli is also an unsafe component for consumers in shrimp paste tofu. Vermicelli is a type of round, soft, white fiber made from brown rice starch, molded into fibers, and boiled in boiling water. However, many vermicelli producers in the market today enhance its appearance and shelf life by adding brighteners and fluorescent substances. These are two extremely toxic substances not permitted in food processing as they can lead to cancer.

13. Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption has been proven to significantly increase the risk of developing various oral cancers, throat cancer, esophageal cancer, especially for those who both smoke and drink. This is explained by alcohol aiding the easier penetration of toxic chemicals from cigarettes into the mucous cells of the mouth, throat, and esophagus. Additionally, alcohol also reduces the ability to repair damaged DNA due to the toxins in cigarettes.
For liver cancer, regularly consuming beer alcohol in high concentrations damages liver cells, leading to inflammation, cirrhosis, and an increased risk of liver cancer. Women who consume beer increase the risk of breast cancer, especially those who do not provide enough folate (a type of vitamin B) in their daily diet. Beer can also increase estrogen levels in the body, raising the risk of breast cancer. Therefore, women who want to reduce the risk of breast cancer should consider reducing or abstaining from beer consumption.
If beer is consumed with moldy peanuts, the risk of illness will multiply. Experts recommend that men should not drink more than 2 glasses a day, and women should not exceed 1 glass of alcohol.

14. Various sugary drinks below
Research conducted by Japanese and Cambodian scientists reveals that 7 types of freshwater fish in Cambodia may cause liver cancer in humans.
These include deep-bodied mud carp (scientific name Cyclocheilichthys apogon), mud carp (Cyclochelichthys enoplos), white-fin labeo (Cyclocheilichthys repasson, belonging to the carp family), short-barbel minnow (Puntius brevis), Hampala dispar, golden mahseer (Barbonymus altus), and lobate cirrhinus (Cirrhinus lobatus). The study was jointly conducted by two Japanese experts and the Cambodian Center for the Control of Insects, Parasites, and Malaria.

15. Carbonated Drinks
Soda - the main component in carbonated drinks, acidifies the body and nurtures cancer cells. The caramel-like colorant in carbonated beverages and its derivative, 4-methylimidazole, are also carcinogens.
Carbonated sodas harbor carcinogens like methylmadizole. According to scientists, the sugar in these drinks releases insulin, a nutrient for tumor growth. Isabel Drake, a researcher at Lund University (Sweden), also states that those who consume a lot of carbonated drinks have a 40% higher risk of developing prostate cancer than normal.
In a recent study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention (USA), postmenopausal women addicted to sugary drinks have an increased risk of developing endometrial cancer, known as type 1 estrogen-dependent endometrial cancer.
