This release count broke the record of 2022 by nearly 2,000 titles. Moreover, this number surpasses the total games released in the first 10 years of Steam's operation combined. Throughout this journey, only 2 years, 2010 and 2019, failed to set new records, while all other years saw an increase in game releases compared to the previous year. Especially since 2014, the number of game releases has grown significantly thanks to various supporting initiatives like Steam Greenlight and later Steam Direct.
If one were to say that the Epic Games Store couldn't impact Steam, that would be underestimating. Evidence shows that one of the 2 non-record-breaking years falls within 2019, the year after Epic launched its game store. However, Steam still maintained its momentum with many engaging activities in game sales and support for gaming experiences. This stands in stark contrast to Epic, which spent a lot of money giving away free games to attract players but often received criticism for its launcher platform being insufficiently functional, prone to errors, and lacking the appeal of its competitors.
