My mother had reminded me many times, yet my careless nature seemed to make no progress. I still scattered clothes and books randomly and occasionally even found myself... sleeping right on the study desk. However, just about a month ago, I vowed to mend my careless habits. It all started during that lunch break.
The teacher announced there would be a Literature test the next day. So, after finishing lunch, I stretched out at my study desk to brainstorm the structure for the essay. But the assignment she gave for this week was genuinely challenging! Tired and disheartened, I slumped right onto the stack of notebooks.
Oh! That hurts so much; the face of the book vendor on the cover got all distorted.
- What's going on, sir! The ruler right next to me is concerned.
- The boss doesn't have a bit of consideration. Just as he rolls over to sleep, he twists my ribs. Do you know, when the old lady first brought me home, my owner was fragrant, with a radiant face and so elegantly flat. But now, look at me! My face is twisted in all sorts of weird superhero shapes. The stiff shell of mine is crumpled and can't be flattened as before. Not to mention the scattered lines and a few pieces of my clothes are torn apart.
- Your situation is also pitiful, sir. Listening to your sighs, I also want to share some of my own thoughts. In the past, I was emerald green. The stripes, the numbers on me were all clear, precise. But now, look at me! My face is cracked, and the numbers on my cheek are all blurry. The other day in class, the boss stepped right in the middle of my back. Fortunately, I survived, otherwise, I'd probably be lying in the landfill by now. Indeed, the boss is no good at all!
Since a while ago, though still lying quietly on the shelf, upon hearing the story, my pen no longer maintains its usual calmness:
- Indeed, each person has their own story. Sir and ma'am have suffered, and I can't help but feel even more heartbroken. The boss's unintentional actions have turned me into a culprit. It hurts a lot to have to follow the boss's hand and draw lines on your faces, on the faces of others, and who knows how many other people. Even though I'm dedicated to the boss every day, I've never had a clean head. Not only that, but I also have to be covered with countless strange and unfamiliar figures on my face. And just because the boss doesn't like it, those times, I might even get torn apart, and sometimes I'm even ripped on my back, hurting so much but dare not say anything. It's really unfair, sir!
- Boss! Why are we so dedicated, and yet you behave like this! So naughty! So naughty! So naughty. Oh! Oh... oh!
- Phuong! What's wrong, my child?
Mom opened the door and rushed in, when I was already standing up but still sweating profusely.
- I'm fine, Mom! I was in a deep sleep!
My mother quietly stepped out, and only then did I panic, looking back at the pile of books on my study desk. Seeing them all scattered, I quickly arranged them on the shelf and took my everyday pen, heading to the backyard.
