The Chainsaw Man characters drawn in the 90s anime style are receiving high praise from fans.
Does the name Hanavbara sound familiar to you? If you're a fan of Japanese manga and anime fanart, you've likely heard of them.
Contrary to popular belief, Hanavbara is a duo of artists from Barcelona, Spain. They're widely known on social media for their talent in transforming modern anime character designs into 1990s anime aesthetics.
For instance, they've performed 'cosmetic surgery' on characters from SPY x FAMILY and Squid Game in the 90s style, delighting many fans. Recently, they've taken on the challenge of reimagining characters from the popular series Chainsaw Man.

In their latest posts, the duo has recreated four remarkable scenes from the Chainsaw Man series in the style of old-school animation. The first image features Power and Denji (along with Pochita, although it doesn't appear in the original scene). The second image features Makima, the third Angle Devil, and the final image is of Aki Hayakawa.
Hanavbara once revealed they regularly watched Japanese anime films during their upbringing, which became their primary inspiration for their later creative endeavors.
As a result, this series of images has garnered significant attention from both fans in general and the Chainsaw Man brand specifically. Numerous praises have been expressed to show admiration for this fan art series, with comments full of inspiration such as:
- Oh my god, they're my favorite artists for a reason.
- Unbelievable, I love it. This is fantastic work!
- Simply beautiful, that's exactly what I need.
- Truly astounding. However, I think it would be better if Makima had no light reflections whatsoever.
- I live for posts like this, I believe Chainsaw Man would still be a highly acclaimed manga even if it were animated in this style.
