The mobile sensation, Pokémon GO, stormed onto the scene in 2016, turning trainers into adventurers exploring the world outside to capture Pokémon using AR technology. Despite the unknown impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on current player numbers, the game has been a lucrative venture for developer Niantic.
Get ready for a change! Pokémon Go is set to cease support for older iOS and Android devices starting October.
Latest Updates and Download Link for Pokemon Go:
Niantic has just announced the discontinuation of support for certain iOS and Android devices next month. The developer conveyed this change through Twitter: 'In the upcoming update for Pokémon GO in October, we will cease support for Android 5, iOS 10 and iOS 11, as well as iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. Trainers with devices not listed here will not be affected and do not need to take any action'.
It's intriguing to see both iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 no longer supported, despite their ability to upgrade to iOS 12. While Niantic did not disclose the reason for this move, in a recent statement, the company mentioned: 'iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 only have 1GB of RAM, and we don't want to hinder the development and deployment of features for the majority of players with more powerful phones'.
This statement makes perfect sense when considering that the game heavily relies on 3D visuals in an AR environment, camera, and GPS location... Niantic further adds that discontinuing support for these configurations will only impact a small number of active players.
Currently, it remains unclear whether the game will cease operations entirely on the mentioned devices in October, or if players can continue using older versions of the game.
