Two adventurers, one from Đà Nẵng, the other from Sài Gòn, rendezvous in Đắk Mil (Đắk Nông) and set out to explore a small corner of Tây Nguyên.
Immersed in the tranquility of Tây Nguyên during our travels.
Compared to other tourist destinations on the Vietnamese map, Tây Nguyên, except for Đà Lạt, is a land often overlooked by wanderers. This region comprises five provinces: Đắk Lắk, Đắk Nông, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Lâm Đồng, featuring pristine forests and renowned tea, cacao, and coffee plantations. Alongside these are the radiant smiles and warm hospitality of the ethnic minorities residing here.
We harbored no expectation of traversing all of Tây Nguyên in a few days. Our journey was a mere vehicle for marveling at the vast expanses of mountains and forests, passing through unnamed villages and roads off the map.
Setting off from Sài Gòn, traversing Phan Thiết, following National Highway 28 to Di Linh, reaching Gia Nghĩa, and finally arriving at the meeting point in Đắk Mil. The rain blending with the red soil made the journey far more challenging, but the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day conquering this place was incomparable.

After exploring the stunning Biển Hồ, we decided to extend our journey by running an additional 30 km to visit the dormant volcano Chư Đăng Ya. The landscape around the volcano is a vibrant red basaltic soil, a testament to past volcanic activity.

Subsequently, my companion and I reversed our route to Kon Tum, planning to reach Măng Đen. However, a heavy rainstorm forced us to retreat to the town of An Khê. The next morning, we tackled the An Khê Pass, connecting Gia Lai and Bình Định.

From there, we ventured towards Ayun Pa, originally planning to reach Đà Lạt. Yet, relentless downpours compelled us to alter our course, heading towards National Highway 1A to return home and conclude our Central Highlands expedition. Though not an extensive 1,500 km journey, it left us with indelible impressions of the land of epic tales, grand mountains, and the innocent smiles in the villages we passed through.
While we didn't cover all planned destinations, it's precisely for that reason that we made a pact to return to this majestic Central Highlands region on a not-so-distant day.
