Starting from April 1, the Ha Long Bay Management Board begins adjusting the entrance fees based on various tourist routes.

Under the new regulations, fees for the 5 tour routes on Ha Long Bay, and Bai Tu Long Bay will range from 200,000 – 250,000 VND per person per visit. Accommodation services for overnight stays on the bay will be priced from 500,000 – 750,000 VND per person for a maximum of 2 nights, doubling the previous rates.

Explaining this, the Provincial People's Committee stated that the new fees are now based on individual routes (inclusive of attractions) instead of the previous unified entrance fee of 120,000 VND per person per trip, plus additional fees for each attraction ranging from 30,000 – 50,000 VND per person per site.

Observations at the Tuần Châu International Tourist Pier show that ticket purchasing activities for exploring the bay continue as usual without much disruption. However, many Ha Long Bay tourists express surprise at this increase in ticket prices.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, originally from Truc Ninh, Nam Dinh, expresses dissatisfaction: 'The current ticket prices are excessively high compared to before. Many people in our group believe that exploring the bay is gradually becoming out of reach for Vietnamese, more suitable for those on guided tours.'

Mr. Le Viet Huy, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, argues that these ticket prices are not high if tourists choose the complete route. He believes tourists won't worry about being overcharged. However, for those with limited stamina who can only visit 1-2 caves, it is indeed a waste of money.

Not only affecting individual tourists, but many travel agencies also find the increased ticket prices challenging.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tap from New Focus Travel Company states: 'The consecutive price hikes in 2016, 2017, and especially this recent one, create challenges for companies in building and ensuring tour prices. We have to explain to customers the reasons behind the price increase as this amount can be considered quite high. We hope that management and service quality also see a significant improvement to guarantee customer satisfaction.
