Surprised by an invitation to lunch at a 4-star restaurant inside Hanoi Tower, I always thought upscale places would be expensive, but to my delight, a lavish buffet for around $150 per person.
I'm Minh Thư, 26, currently working near the Bà Triệu area, Hai Bà Trưng district. Last week, I was unexpectedly invited to lunch at a 4-star restaurant inside Hanoi Tower. I always thought upscale places would be expensive, but to my delight, a lavish buffet for around $150 per person – it's the European buffet at Japas.
When mentioning Japas, many of you must have heard of this luxurious address by the Al Fresco group, famous for its steaks and Mexican dishes, along with its prime locations in central areas. Frankly speaking, with an office salary, if not for the invitation, I rarely think of dining at such upscale places.
However, it's true that just staying put and not daring to go, I wouldn't have known that despite its luxurious ambiance, Japas is quite affordable. Occasionally switching up meals, going for upscale dining on special occasions, this choice seems quite reasonable.
Elegant European-style ambiance
Because we were nearby and planning to have lunch and then go for coffee, my friend and I arrived here quite early. Japas is on the 4th floor, accessible via both elevator and stairs.

An elegant entrance with a beautiful restaurant name

On the 4th floor, there's quite a nice view, and since we arrived early, there were only a few other guests at the buffet, just like me

Light and impressive European buffet menu
Not only impressed by the ambiance, but my first impression was also the buffet counter arranged quite neatly, beautifully like in a French bakery.

First impression: the buffet counter is beautifully arranged like a French pastry shop
For starters, there's a salad bar and various soups. I particularly enjoyed the Green Salad (mixed greens) with spinach, kale, fruits (not sure what they were but tasted delicious), tomatoes, mixed just right, slightly tangy and very crispy. There's also buttered bread and Thai-style tom yum soup, along with pork spring rolls, steamed pork cakes, sticky rice, crab noodles...
Although I didn't intend to eat, the beautifully arranged plate of spring rolls was too tempting to resist, so I tried one of each, all tasted just right, I suggest you give them a try too!

Next up are the hot dishes – including grilled, stir-fried, rice, noodles, vegetables, basically like the main course. The hot dishes here are not separated into individual counters but arranged by section, so you can still easily identify and pick your favorite dish.

This hot dishes area

The dishes are neatly placed in double-layered ceramic trays
The grilled dishes include American beef brisket, grilled beef, skewered grilled chicken. You can choose how much you want and the staff at the counter will slice it for you. Since Japas is famous for its grilled dishes and steaks, I tried the grilled beef, beef brisket, and roasted chicken. The roasted meat is sliced while still hot, so it's very tender and fragrant. You can help yourself to the dipping sauces according to your preference, each type has its own, generally, the grilled dishes are quite satisfying.

This is the grilling station – there's a staff member ready to serve and slice the grilled meat for customers
The food is stored in clean trays, covered neatly and keeps warm quite well so most stir-fried dishes don't get cold. The beef stir-fry sauce is slightly strong in my opinion, although eaten hot so the beef isn't tough, the pork stir-fried with vegetables tastes just right. There's also stir-fried noodles and curry.

This area is for stir-fried noodles and fried rice
For dessert, there are quite a few options including fruits, jelly, pastries, both sweet soup and taro soup, but my favorite is still caramel ice cream, not too sweet but just right. Finally, the total buffet price including VAT is 160K per person, the listed price is 230K, but Jaapas currently has a lunch buffet promotion for an additional 60K, you can call for two servings at once. Thinking it would cost a lot but after finishing eating, still have over 200K left to go for coffee.
Only when coming for the buffet did I know they also have a Mexican buffet here and offer discounts for à la carte dishes all week up to 15%, I guess I'll have to come back here around October 20th.
