New Year's Day 2021 will be observed for 03 days
Next year's New Year's Day (01/01/2021) also marks the effective date of the 2019 Labor Code.- Civil servants, public employees, officials, and workers in agencies, units, and enterprises with Saturday and Sunday off will have 03 consecutive days off, from Friday 01/01/2021 to the end of Sunday 03/01/2021.
- Workers in enterprises without Saturday off, only Sunday off will have 01 day off for New Year's Day on Friday 01/01/2021. However, business leaders can decide to give workers an extra day off on Saturday 01/01/2021 and arrange for makeup work days.
Tet (Lunar New Year) of the Ox will be observed for 07 days
While the holiday schedule for New Year's Day 2021 is relatively clear, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule of the Ox is currently being proposed by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs with 02 options:- Option 1: Civil servants will have a 7-day Lunar New Year holiday, from the 29th of the twelfth lunar month to the end of the 5th day of the first lunar month (from 10/02 - 16/02 of the Gregorian calendar).
- Option 2: Civil servants will have a 7-day Lunar New Year holiday, from the 30th of the twelfth lunar month to the end of the 6th day of the first lunar month (from 11/02 - 17/02 of the Gregorian calendar).
Public Holidays Eligible for Salary in 2021
- New Year's Day: 01 day off (01/01 Gregorian calendar)
- Lunar New Year: 05 days off
- Reunification Day: 01 day off (30/04 Gregorian calendar)
- International Workers' Day: 01 day off (01/05 Gregorian calendar)
- National Day: 02 days off (02/09 Gregorian calendar and 01 contiguous day before or after)
- Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day off (10/3 Lunar calendar)
Changes Compared to Previous Years
- Increased National Day Holidays: Previously, workers were only entitled to 01 day off (02/9), starting from 2021, workers will have 02 days off (01/9 and 02/9 or 02/9 and 03/9, specifically chosen by the Prime Minister).
- Changes to Lunar New Year Holiday Schedule: Previously, the Lunar New Year holiday was also 05 days, but employers could choose to give 01 day off at the end of the lunar year and 04 days off at the beginning of the lunar year or 02 days off at the end of the lunar year and 03 days off at the beginning of the lunar year.
- Starting from 2021, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule will be determined by the Prime Minister, based on the actual conditions of each year.
