How to insert annotations in Word
*For Word 2016 - 2019
Step 1: Highlight the word or paragraph you want to insert annotations for.
Select the Review tab on the top menu bar, then click on the New Comment button.
Step 2: Enter the annotation in the dialogue box on the right side of the screen and press Enter
Step 3: To delete any annotation, you select the paragraph or word with the annotation.
Select the Review tab, then press the Delete button in the Comments section.
*For Word 2003
Step 1: Create an annotation
You want to annotate a word, then highlight that word, next go to Insert and choose Comment
A red Comment box appears on the right side of the page, enter the desired annotation into that box after the colon “:”
Step 2: Edit, delete annotation
You just need to hover over the Comment box, where you previously wrote, and edit as you wish. Or right-click on the annotated word and select Edit Comment.
To delete Comments, you highlight the text needing annotations, then click on the Reject Change/Delete Comment icon. Choose Reject Change/Delete Comment if you only want to delete the current Comment. Select Delete All Comments in Document if you wish to delete all Comments in the open document.
Additionally, you can right-click on the word with a created comment and then press Delete Comment to remove it.
*For Word 2007
Step 1: Create a comment
Highlight the text for commenting, then go to the Review tab, select the New Comment icon. Once the Comment box appears, enter the desired content to annotate.
Step 2: To delete a Comment, hover over the word with the previously created annotation, go to Review, select Delete to remove the current comment, choose Delete All Comments in Document if you want to delete all comments in the working document.
Additionally, you can delete the current comment by hovering over the comment word, right-clicking on it, and selecting Delete Comment. Adding annotations in Word helps you present the meaning of information in the document more clearly and comprehensively.
