Facebook, the company behind Instagram, has released Reels on its photo-sharing platform. With Reels, users can create entertaining videos and share them with everyone. These clips are short, lasting only 15 seconds, and can include sound and effects. Reels can be shared with followers on the Feed, or those with public accounts can share their creations through a new space in Explore.
Download and install Instagram on your browser, Android phone, and iPhone:
To create Reels, open your Instagram camera and select Reels at the bottom of the screen. Reels can be recorded as a series of clips or a single, cohesive video. Begin by holding down the record button, and the progress indicator at the top of the screen will let you know you're filming. To finish a clip, simply stop recording.
Before filming, you can find a suitable song from Instagram's music library to add to your Reels or use original audio recorded while filming. Then set a timer and countdown, allowing you to film hands-free. When you hit record, you'll see a 3-2-1 countdown before the video starts within your chosen timeframe.
Similar to Instagram Stories, you can choose from a variety of effects in Instagram's effect library and film multiple clips with different effects. Instagram Reels also offers options to align objects for seamless transitions between clips. Lastly, you can adjust the video playback speed and sound.
The new Reels feature could be described as a competitor to TikTok. With TikTok currently facing major issues in the US, Facebook is undoubtedly seeking to capitalize on the opportunity to attract TikTok content creators to switch to Instagram Reels.
