Previously, Instagram users could only live stream with one other person at a time, but now, the popular photo-sharing platform has doubled the number of users who can live stream together in a session.
Live video streaming together on Instagram through the Live Rooms feature
Live Rooms will be rolled out globally, and all Instagram users will soon be able to experience this feature. To live stream with Live Rooms, swipe left and select Live camera, then tap on the Room icon to add people you want to chat with. There, you'll see a list of people who have requested to live stream with you, and you'll be able to search for others to add to your Live Rooms.
When starting a live stream room, you can add guests simultaneously or individually, depending on your preference. This creates opportunities to add 'surprise guests' to live streams to attract fans.
The ability to add multiple participants to live streams can also help content creators grow their fan base because all the followers of the guests are notified about Live Rooms alongside your own information.
To enhance safety for live stream rooms, anyone blocked by someone in the Live Rooms will not have access to the live stream. Users may also have access revoked if they violate community guidelines. Additionally, live stream room administrators will be able to report and block comments, as well as apply comment filters.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic causing many places to implement social distancing, Live Rooms offer a new approach for content creators to expand interaction with their followers. So far, fitness instructors, musicians, beauty bloggers, chefs, and activists have all used Instagram's live streaming feature to reach their audiences, and with the introduction of Live Rooms, content will become even more engaging.
Instagram states that Live Rooms is now available on both iOS and Android platforms for all markets worldwide. The company hopes the rollout will reach 100% of users within this week.
