Instagram, the video-sharing social network, rolled out a feature for creating short videos in TikTok style called Reels last year. Despite offering a range of similar features to TikTok, Instagram continues to emulate another significant function from the Chinese music video platform, with the introduction of Remix within Reels.
Essentially, Remix works similarly to TikTok's Duet feature, designed to allow you to create your own Reels video alongside an existing user's video. This means you can record a clip alongside another video as a form of virtual collaboration. This capability is commonly used by TikTok users who enjoy participating in dance challenges or reacting to trending videos.
Instagram notes that Remix can help you react to another video or collaborate with friends on the platform. To use the new feature, simply tap on the three-dot menu on a clip and select Remix this Reel. Then, you can create a Reel video alongside that video or upload a pre-recorded clip. You'll be able to track who has remixed your video through Instagram's Activity tab.
The Remix feature also provides some control capabilities, allowing you to adjust the volume of the original video or your own video, as well as dubbing. Additionally, there are some video editing tools such as a timer, effects, and speed control.

Remix is now available on the Instagram platform and it will be enabled by default on all new stories posted from public accounts.
